The world mourns with Hong Kong for her lost of tourists in the Philippines terrorist tragedy. All are upset with the way the situation was bungled by the Philippines police. What a sad day it was!
The mislabeling and mixing up the remains in Manila prior to their transport back to HK certainly didn't help. But, I personally doubt that any of them will truly rest until those who are responsible for the poor police showing are brought to task for the performance that ultimately cost the victims their lives. It's now coming out that it was probably because of internecine turf battles between the civilian and military team that prevented the much more experienced assets from being brought to bear on the hostage taker. Further, it seems there are also allegations that the assailant formerly had close professional ties to the same police units that were ordered to subdue him. This is a huge conflict of interest that may have skewed the judgment of the responding officers, as they would have to consider killing a former colleague. If anyone takes the time to read the press coming out of the Philippines, it's apparent that there is going to be a whole wave of recriminations because of this. Right now, it's finger pointing game and all those involved are playing duck and cover. It's not over yet by a long shot.
