The world’s most expensive video game?

  1. How much is too much to pay for a video game? We’ve certainly balked at paying more than £40 for a new release, and we fully understand the legions of UK players who are snapping up pre-owned titles instead. None of which concerns US collector JJ Hendricks one iota – he’s just forked out $17,500 (around £10,700) for an obscure NES game.

The cart in question is a gold-coloured copy of ‘Nintendo World Championships’, which was created for a Nintendo-sponsored games competition back in 1990. It is, by all accounts, the ‘Holy Grail’ of video game collectibles; a fact that is supported by its scarcity – only 26 copies are thought to exist worldwide.
The game itself can barely justify its astonishing price tag, though. It comprises just three brief segments of existing NES titles – Tetris, Rad Racer and Super Mario Bros. – all of which must be completed within a strict 6 minutes 21 seconds time limit. So not very much bang for an awful lot of bucks.

Speaking of which, at $17,500 Hendricks considers he’s found himself a stonking bargain. We guess that’s true too, given the original $25,000 listing on eBay.
Well, it all puts the expense of big bundle games like Guitar Hero World Tour and the forthcoming Beatles Rock Band into perspective, doesn’t it. So, are there any gems lurking in your collections? We’re off to the attic to double-check ours...

I have my old pokemon cards? Lol. But seriously though, if I had that I wouldn't sell it. It carries a lot of good childhood memories for some people.

i hope they won't have to blow into it to make it out. Dust always find its way into it and it would not work.
