    Hi All,
I'm planning on taking my netbook with me to China this summer and I would like to know if any of you have done so before also. Did anyone have problems going through customs? I'm going to take it onto the plane in my carry-on. I've heard from some people that they may get confiscated; but, I don't recall seeing anything against taking a laptop/netbook on the airline website.

I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. And thank you for your input. -^_^

Make sure the netbooks works and the batteries are charged before you board. Sometimes, the guards will ask you to show them that the netbook is indeed a functional device meaning it boots up, etc.

Just make sure you don't have any references to Tiananmen Sq or Tibet on it. Otherwise, they will search through all your shit. China can be great, but one must remember that it remains a totalitarian state.

  4. i brought my laptop overseas before, i generally allow that stuff...

Apparently Australia is bringing in laws that allows customs to search your laptop for porn

I'll let my friend know about this. He's going back for a visit in September. =)

I'll keep this in mind. I shouldn't have a problem with this as my netbook will be fairly new so not much to look for.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I was also considering taking walkie talkies as there are 20 people in our group (about 8 seniors) and with such a big group many will want to do their own thing. But, i was told that this is a no-no. I just hope the seniors won't get lost. =)

just got back from china today and had no problems there with my laptop. luckily, most of the hotels i stayed at had free wifi; just one of the hotels wanted 1 RMB per minute. I'm not sure about skype; but, I wasn't permitted to log into facebook or youtube over there.
