Don't party too much. Go to all of your classes. Don't cheat on exams. Take as few useless classes as possible. Look in the manual to see what the core requirements are and get them out of the way as soon as possible. Try to take the core classes that fulfill more than 1 requirement... this saves you time & money. Always take about 5-6 classes per semester, 3 of them being hard, 2 of them being easy. Dont spend too much time on the easy classes. p/d/f the class if you find that you're struggling and the class is just an elective. Remember all deadlines for registration, signing up for limited enrollment classes, filing for p/d/f, ect. If you're struggling in a class, always go to TA office hours. You'll get a lot done there. Do all of your hw, and DON'T procrastinate!
Depending on where you're going for school, you shouldn't slack off and spend too much time partying. If you go to a community college and don't plan on transferring, I guess you don't have as much to worry about because it's almost exactly like high school. At least it is for me. Of course that also depends on what courses you sign up for. If you're going to some prestigious University then that's a different story and you should probably take a double look at what "shy" wrote. haha Slacking off at community colleges is not always a bad thing. But yes....paying extra attention to deadlines, drop dates ect. is very important! Also, your teacher may or may not hand out lecture notes. If they do, write down what they say that's not on those notes. If they don't, it's a good idea to write down everything they says. Usually, they go at a reasonable enough pace for you to write everything down. IF you're really good you can just pay attention and not take notes, but me, I fall asleep... >.<
Thanks for all the tips so far. So it's not much different from high school huh? And what about extracurriculars? How often do they meet and is the timing bad?
Here's a tip don't plan on committing suicide!! Even though your gonna want to after the first week... don't do it!!! IT"S not worth it!!! Nooo....... Don't Go!!!! Don't LET GO!!!
im goin to college too...university seems too hard..im a lazy guy...well im getting a degree in college so its all good
Whether or not you find college to be tough really depends on how rigorous your high school curriculum is/was. For me, I think college is a breeze in comparison to high school... because in high school, I had classes every single day, homework due every day, and tests/quizzes almost every other day. I'm in my 5th year @ uni right now and I'm able go to school full time and work part time (soon to be full time also) & I'm still managing a pretty decent gpa. In fact, I get more sleep in college than I ever did in high school. Classes only meet every other day, and homework is due once a week. I either do my homework on the commute to school or I do my homework on the weekends. It's really a good idea to stay ahead of the game & do all your work before the due date. That way, you'll have a good idea of what the material is before the professor teaches it in the lectures. Extracurricular activities in college? The ones that interest me meet @ night, which conflicts with my job, since I start work in the evenings. But there are a lot of clubs that meet during weekends, so if you live on campus (which I don't), it'll be more convenient. But clubs & stuff like that in college isn't like in high school where you meet at least once a week. It's more like meet once in a blue moon or if there is an activity being planned.
lol ecko some priceless advice, thanks -smart Ill be starting my first year in uni in sept, but apparently my course has lots of classes/lectures/etc, more so than most courses, lets hope your right
Morning classes suck. don't take any class before 10 or 11 o'clock. You would end up sleeping in those classes anyways. Go to Ratemyprofessor.com to pick the easier professors or for professors that aren't well, u know. studying is only one part of college. The most important thing is enjoy college life as much as you can.
just work hard the first couple of months n then figure out whats the best thing for urself, some ppl need to work hard all the years, some can just fool around n still pass all tests
yes. enjoy while you're still a student. try to pass all your classes and if there's a chance of studying abroad (your last yr) try to get in. THAT is a lot of fun and usually easy A.
