In the span of ten years, Tony Hung (洪永城) went from being a variety show host to a television actor. Upon joining TVB, he quickly rose up the ranks and replaced Raymond Wong (黃浩然) in the lead role in Captain of Destiny <張保仔>. Although Tony put in a lot of effort to play the part of Cheung Po Tsai, his performance was met with mixed reviews. Those who enjoyed his performance complimented his comedic flair, while those who criticized his performance felt that he was unsuitable for the role. Cast as a replacement only one week before filming commenced due to Raymond’s illness, Tony admitted that he initially felt a lot of pressure. “After filming commenced, I was engrossed into the character. I focused on the script and my acting and didn’t have time to think about anything else, so the pressure fizzled out quickly.” As a relatively new actor, Tony accepted netizens’ feedback with a positive attitude. “I went online to see what the audience was saying. There were both good and bad. The negative comments critiqued my acting skills and emotional scenes. I agree that I could have been better-rounded in my acting. Of course I was a little unhappy. But I will accept and absorb the audiences’ feedback. Feedback is my motivation. Next time, I will do better. Hopefully the audience will appreciate the efforts of both the on-stage and off-stage staff!” Tony’s costar, Grace Chan (陳凱琳), also received a lot of negative criticism regarding her performance. In response to the feedback, Tony defended Grace, “It was most exhausting for her during filming. It’s a pity that most of the criticism is about her. Hopefully the audience can patiently wait for an improved Grace Chan and Tony Hung.” Tony went on to compliment Grace’s positive attitude and joked, “It’s like Grace doesn’t need to sleep!
