'TV Brat' Gigi Lai is so Polite in the Flesh 'Love Your Face' advertisements fronted by Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai appeared in major Singapore Press Holdings papers For someone who is always playing the spoilt brat on TV and nicknamed Shi Fei Jing, or Scandal Spirit, by the Hong Kong media, Gigi Lai is a lot less abrasive in person. Her alabaster complexion has bagged her a seven-figure endorsement deal with the Bio-essence range of skincare products. No doubt Gigi is still a head-turner with her 'can't-be-in-her-30s' looks. But a vivacious personality to match? Couldn't find one. Her replies were polished and polite, but revealed precious little. At the press conference, Gigi spoke gaily about her secret to youth and beauty (drinking lots of water and eating lots of fruit) and what makes her happy (shopping and pampering herself). And she added that a positive attitude is what 'keeps me beautiful'. But is this mild-mannered and seemingly guileless Gigi actually for real? Or is she a sugar-coated smart cookie who knows how to play her cards right? On her Scandal Spirit status, she said: 'Every celebrity in Hong Kong is subjected to such attention. And I consider myself very lucky to have so many rumours written about me. If you are not popular, then people won't even be bothered to talk about you. Isn't that terrible? I'd rather people gossip about me than ignore me.' And what about those incessant rumours about her not getting along with her co-stars? The latest has it that she fell out with Charmaine Sheh, her co-star in The Dance Of Passion. Gigi said: 'Maybe it's because the dramas need the publicity, that is why so many stories are spun. As long as I know I didn't do anything wrong, and it hasn't hurt my relationships with my colleagues, I don't let such talk bother me.' Spoken like a true veteran with 20 years of experience under her belt. After suffering a career slump in the '90s, the former child actress regained her momentum with the TVB ratings-winner War And Beauty in 2003. She bagged the My Favourite Female Lead and Top Ten Favourite TV Characters gongs at the TVB Awards for her portrayal of a spoilt princess. There was talk that the awards were part a 'deal' between Gigi and TVB, but Gigi claims she is not as ambitious as the reports paint her out to be. 'When I was younger, I couldn't wait to try out everything, like singing and making movies. Now... I just want to enjoy life... Little things are enough to make me happy now, like when my photos turn out really well.' Source: newpaper.asia1.com.sg/0,4138,,00.html? Credits: cloudychoco
