Hong Kong's District Court has acquitted TVB's general manager Stephen Chan of bribery and fraud charges. As head of Hong Kong's biggest terrestrial broadcaster, 51-year-old Chan is highly influential in the territory's entertainment circles and his arrest last March sent shockwaves through the city's showbiz scene. Hong Kong's anti-corruption watchdog, the ICAC, alleged that Chan had taken outside jobs behind broadcaster TVB's back. Mr Chan, 51, was alleged to have taken an outside job that paid him HK$112,000 (~US$14,000) without TVB's knowledge. But Judge Poon Siu-tung said the broadcaster must have known, and given its tacit approval, when Mr Chan hosted a live talk show at a shopping centre in 2009. He said that it would have been naive for the station to think he would take the job for nothing. The prosecution also accused Chan of deceiving TVB and five actresses by concealing a HK$300,000 (~US$38,500) payment for their appearances at an event. Judge Poon said the prosecution had failed to prove that Chan knew the details of the agreement, arranged by a production company. Two co-defendants, a former personal assistant of Chan, and a TVB marketing executive, were also acquitted. Chan was clearly pleased with the verdict when he stepped out of court, stopping briefly to thank God, his pastor Enoch Lam, TVB artist Wong Hei and TVB Chairwoman Mona Fong for their support. While the case may have tarnished his reputation, TVB in a show of confidence in Chan, surprised everyone by reinstating Chan to his post as general manager back in November, before the case even got to trial.
Wait till he gets back into TVB and gets his GM spot back! Kicking that other girl out of her spot and hopefully signing Wong Hei back to TVB
muther fff....., lucky. But it's also a good thing to me because like some said, he'll bring wong hei back. Ah hei must do a COMEBACK!!
