Hong Kong police comedy Special Female Force <辣警霸王花>, directed by Wilson Chin (錢國偉), finally has a release date at long last. The movie about female SDU officers, filmed in early 2015, is now being slated for a September 2016 release in Hong Kong and China.

Starring Jeana Ho (何佩瑜), Eliza Sam (岑麗香), Cathryn Lee (李元玲), Anita Chui (崔碧珈), Mandy Ho (何佩珉), and Joyce Cheng (鄭欣宜), Special Female Force centers on a team of female officers for the Special Duties Unit, Hong Kong’s elite SWAT force. The movie was shot in early 2015 and was originally slated for a September 2015 release; however, mainland censors hesitated in approving the film due to its explicit violence, some which involved guest stars Shirley Yeung (楊思琦) and Jessica C. getting killed in a gory fashion.

After cutting the aforementioned scenes, Special Female Force was finally approved for a release. The movie spent an entire year in post-production hell due to this controversy.

Eliza Sam has expressed her happiness that her debut film is finally getting a release. She said, “The cast have all gotten close through filming, and I was really hoping that the movie would get released soon. I kept asking when it’s coming! We’ve all worked hard in this film. There is a lot of action, so I’m actually not surprised that some if it is getting censored. I’m really happy now that it’s going to be released!”

Shirley Yeung, on the other hand, was a bit upset that her part in the film was cut. “It’s a pity. There was a lot of wire work involved, and there was one scene where I had to fall from a three story window. I really don’t want any of it to be cut, because I really worked hard in all of them!”

Nonetheless, the former Miss Hong Kong said she’s happy to be able to “work with Top Models and youthful actresses” and thanked producer Wong Wing-fung (黃永峰) for the opportunity. As for her thoughts on junior actress Eliza, Shirley said, “She’s adorable. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t have any scenes with her.”

While the violence scenes will be cut in the China version, producer Wong Wing-fung said Hong Kong will be releasing the full, uncut version.

They should have just released it in HK first, you know it'll just get bootlegged anyways, the mainlanders will probably do that instead of going to watch this in theaters...although they may still go to see it in the big screens for obvious reasons :p
