I've heard many mixed reviews on Ubuntu 10.04. Mostly negative reviews on the installations of Ubuntus. Right now i have 4 machines running at home, one of them is still a Pentium 4 desktop 180 GB HDD Pentium 4 3 Ghz Processor 2.5 GB Ram I know my computer has more than enough to support this OS, but the Jew side of me have doubts that it might fail.... I want to hear your opinions if I should install it on my P4 or not
do it i've installed a few ubuntu 10.04s on P4s at work without any hitch or problem. in fact, i don't understand how people can screw up the installation lol
i'm a system administrator, software/web application/prototype developer at IBM trust me, i have hardware in my custody that are antiquated. you should be able to install it on a P4
cool, reason why i asked for your occupation is because im trying to lean towards an IT career, im studying the A+ Cert book as we speak... trying to get A+Cert by August plan on getting MCSE, Security+, Network+ certs... any advice
system administrator is just a title i believe, and the other stuff he put are job descriptions, correct me if i'm wrong though
very nice. it's always a good thing to get as many certifications as you can. my position at IBM does include system administration, however my preferred career path actually lies in software and application development... I wont be able to help you with IT specific certification as i am only an intern.. noasian might be able to give better pointers than i? edit: my full title: Admin/ Web Application Developer my responsibilities of system administration and web application developer pretty much are equal in weight... like 50-50... i just took this title from my predecessor, who took it from his predecessor lol i'm only an intern, so no business card :(
I wonder if Macho Man Randy Savage has a business card. Certs are good-pending what specific aspect of IT or field within IT that you want to work in.
im a senior in Computer Engineering, but due to many difficulties, im trying to lean towards IT, which is more of my interest. Considering dropping out of college to get certified
btw i just tried installing it, keeps freezing when it restarts at "Warning PC Video resolution setting is out of range, change setting to recommended resolution 1280 * 1024@60 hz" After changing it to 1280*1024 (already at 60Hz), the problem is still here
oh i had this problem before... what did i do..... i think i reinstalled ubuntu, but through the command line. by installing ubuntu through the terminal, you can reconfigure the xserver to work with your graphics card. i think i used this.. http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/columns/how_to_fix_your_computers_graphics_with_dpkg-reconfigure but it's been a while, i forgot.. however i believe there is an option for command line install, or if you know how to ssh, you can ssh to the ubuntu machine to run the command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg this should reconfigure xserver with your graphics card... let me know how it goes
problem is i can't even get the installer to work, i mean it just gets stuck at that warning sign. Don't know how to install using command line i think the site you gave me just reconfigures graphics card while in linux...i tried finding old ubuntu versions but no luck
^ Computer engineer huh? yeah... me too..... totally not working out >___> lol graduated and working in electric distribution..... i was also thinking about starting a word of mouth computer IT business... nothing formal, as a side...
Don't drop college just yet. Certs can be taken on the side and see if it has your interest to seriously pursue.
yeh im a senior taking junior courses, and im still struggling, the way my school does it, they speed up the curriculum and professors are really shitty
