lol i live in the UK and this doesn't surprise me, tbh it doesn't phase us much in the UK as were so used to it. besides without cctv there would be no crime watch UK
i prefer all that cctv, at least it can be used for evidence or if you get attacked and no ones around, cctv will see you
yeah i reckon its a good thing....we have it on NL....& u know...i do feel safer in those areas & besides who needs privacy while walking on the streets anyway
shit like this could get out of hand though. imagine dropping some paper on the ground without really noticing and later being served a 300 dollar fine for littering because they saw it on a CCTV camera. or maybe you are out driving and cut someone off by accident and later you are forced to pay a few hundred pounds for reckless driving. if all your movements are recorded on a camera and analyzed by someone out there, what difference is there between you and some lab animal. Cameras limit individual freedom plain and simple. Anyone who has read George Orwel's book 1984 would be terrified of how accurate his predictions for the future were. When we live in a society where the only time your every move is not being recorded is in your home, then we have lost most of our liberty. When those cameras start to invade our homes, then we have lost everything that makes us free.
It may SEEM fearful, but in fact it's simply impractical... In order to really review those footage from all the CCTV, how many employees would the Chinese Government hire to stare at those screens full time? Plus, I think UK proved that a balance, a delicate one at that, can be obtained in optimizing the policy.
