Here's the story. It happened yesterday and it made me feel a lot of things. Mainly anger. I hardly ever get this angry about anything... So if you read my blog post or w/e I began my search for a place to stay near my university so I wouldn't have to commute. The reason why I waited so long to find one is explained in the post. To put it simply: parents. So I searched for near to 3 weeks and I finally found a house with 1 room for rent. It was perfect. It was well kept and the housemates were very nice. Not to mention it was clean. So I really liked the house. Naturally I told the landlord I was interested and he sent me a application form to fill out (not the actually lease). He said once this application is completed and accepted then I would be able to sign the lease and get the room. So I had to wait 2 weeks for response because I put some wrong info in this one part of the application. So yeh I waited and then I was suppose to get a reply yesterday. It was around 3 and I still didn't get a reply so I emailed him. Then! When I come back to check my email I get a reply that says he is sorry and the room is no longer available? Huh wait... What!? Apparently the person renting a room in the house for the summer wants to rent it out for the 09-10 school year and he was a resident there last year as well. So at my expense he gets his room. Here's what really pisses me off. I was never informed of this possibility at all. I even asked if the room was mine. He basically told me it was. He led me to believe that I had a gurrentie on the room. He didn't even bother telling me that this could have happened. I called him and asked him what was going on exactly and he explained it. He kept saying sorry and that if I need a room for the 10-11 year I should come back. Ya fucking right. I don't give a shit if your sorry. This is completely unfair. And I don't give a shit about the 10-11 year. Who knows what will happen then. All I cared about was getting a place to stay now. I've searched and looked at so many places and I was so relieved to find this house, but the fucker just had to ruin my day and make everything just that much harder for me. Not only did he take take the room away from me, but I wasted 2 weeks thinking that I was going to get it. 2 weeks I could have used to search for another place. And now I'lll have to try even harder cause more people will be trying to find a place. THanks a lot asshole! This whole thing is fucked up. I mean why give the room to that idiot? He obviously didn't show interest in renting the room any further and that's why you listed the fuckin room for rent. I however did show interest. Why must I pay for that retard's mistake? The fact that he's an idiot who can't plan ahead. Its not my fucking fault that he made a fucking mistake. So why are you making me suffer? Honestly this guy is so unprofessional. I just wanna go there and destroy his house. Burn it to the fucking ground. So pissed off... But I guess I'll have to keep looking for another place. Thanks jackass.
I had that done to me so many times when i was viewing places to live in, i said i NEED a place for like say this weekend and they showed me the places that is already given to others, does get really annoying though coz once i had a go at one of the landlords coz i said wanted one that is available i guess next time just remeber to ask for availibility and if you are really interested put a deposit down like i did with my current flat near uni xD
i know it really must suck... n u must be frustrated....but some landlords are just like that... they fuck ppl over n somefuck them over.... if they have someone looking at the place n that person tells him hes gonna take the place n changes his mind that person wouldnt always call to cancel either... for landlords its probably just business, they found someone else so they wouldnt bother to call u.... wish u goodluck on househunting!
that sux but as long as there is no contract signed he can do whatever he wants. go egg the house on halloween
on the landlord's pov...: its business as usual yes, but there is also another factor to consider. He's had previous experience with this tenant, so he knows what's the usual routine, the habits, noise levels, etc. A deposit always goes a long way. It makes your request that much more serious about the offer at hand. Good luck next time! and I hope there are still spaces available for ya.
A 'guarantee' on the room? No. Unless the landlord signed something to that effect, you have nothing. You want to go burn his house down? So do it. If there's someone inside that dies too, then besides arson, you'll also be charged with murder. When we read about disgruntled people doing shit like going postal or coming back with guns and shooting up a place, it is generally some sort of perceived wrong that they want extreme justice for. Just look at that idiot who recently tried to shoot up the Holocaust Museum; it was all about him, wasn't it? How the world had been unfair to him, and how it should pay. Moral is, move on. The world isn't going to revolve around us no matter how much we want it to. In life's journey, we're going to get bumps in the road. If one can't even deal with a minor rejection from a potential rental, then one may as well get it over with. Go burn his house down and spend the rest of one's life in jail. Anger management or not, is really up to each of us as individuals. From the landlord's point of view: In many places, if a renter wants to extend a lease, the law protects and favors them. Otherwise, landlords would be free to throw out families if someone else simply offered higher rent. So there may be perfectly legal reasons why he could not rent to someone else. Additionally, the landlord may have thought, "...here's a guy that couldn't even fill out an application properly; why should I rent to him?" Moreover, the previous renter is already a known quantity; that is, someone who had rented before and presumably had no problems. Sorry, but I'm sort of inclined to agree with the landlord; I would have probably done exactly the same thing. On the 'positive' side, he did offer you the following year. Even if you can't use it right now, it points more to meaning that he probably didn't care that you had filled out the application wrong but really did have a genuine conflict with another renter. So even if you're living someplace else this year, it may still offer you a better option next year. My point is, it may be wiser to not burn bridges behind oneself, so to speak, by remaining at least on good speaking terms with the guy. Yelling, screaming, or showering the owner with invectives today, may cause the owner to reconsider the following year's offer. Finally yes, I do agree that finding affordable rentals (especially in such a tight time frame) is a cast iron bitch. You have my sympathies on that. Good luck in your search, AND your anger management.
