Does anyone have any effective tooth ache remedies?

Its really annoying my brother. He is in so much pain.

He has already tried salty water, but no effect. Can't visit the dentist as they are all fully booked until wednesday

Try going to a local pharmacy store and ask for toothache creams and/or toothache painkillers. If you have any prescription drugs like Tylenol, it works too. The higher mg/tablet usually works better in relieving the pain. Other than that, tell yo' bro to visit the dentist.

try spraying mouth freshener on to the teeth and then rinse with ice water. it may help. don't eat pain killer too much because it can damage your body. some times you also need a diversion like watch a funny movie perhaps. the point is try to shut your mind from the pain. hopefully this will help

Go to your local hospital emergency room; while they cannot take care of the tooth, they can provide you with prescription pain killers until your dental appointment. Just bear in mind that with medications such as Vicodin or Percocet, (narcotics) that you should not attempt to drive or operate dangerous machinery (power tools, saws, drills, etc) as your judgment and reaction time will be impaired. Salt water, ice, packing around it, et cetera, does nothing except annoy the tooth and can actually make it worse. And do not try to chew on anything as food particles can be impacted into the caries and make it more difficult to deal with.

If you happen to be in New York City, you can try the New York University's Dental School's Emergency Service (First Avenue & 25th Street), even on week ends. Call 411 for their number.

    Good luck.

LOL... Pain killers aren't good for your health? Forgive me but, would you mind showing me the research on which that comment is based? :shifty:

While I can respect every man's right to his or her beliefs, and I certainly don't believe there was malicious intent, I personally consider that to tell someone who is in extreme pain to avoid analgesics, is not only cruel, but dangerously misinformed; such comments are counter productive when offered as pain management advice. Pain killers are for pain; if someone is having pain, they should use them because that's what they're designed for. Else one can make the same frivolous claim about other medications; cough syrup, heart pills, etc. All medications, when used properly for their designed purposes generally make a patient's health improve. At the least, it renders a disease process, like pain, more humanely manageable.

A total sidebar but in a similar vein: I remember a friend of the missus, who's son has asthma. The doctor had prescribed medications for the child but the kid's father (who's brain never really left that Chinese village's mud hut) didn't give the medication to the child, for fear that "...taking too many medicines would be bad for his health, just let him grow out of it instead..." Long story short, the kid almost died and needed to be hospitalized. The doctor then told the man that if he continued to refuse to give the child the medicines she would call Child Protective Services and have the child removed from his care, along with having him arrested for neglect. :whip:

True that, Ralph. I've had people tell me not to take too much Tylenol, Advil, and other everyday prescriptions drugs because "it's not good for you." I ask them the same thing: who told you that? Even my mom says it sometimes, she'd be like "if your fever ain't that serious, don't take anymore Tylenol, it's bad for you." I find it that it's always the Chinese individuals who believes in these "myths."

  15. yeah... but when doctors don't even take drugs themselves u mite think it's more than just a myth...

And I'll ask you this, who and where did you get the information from that doctors don't take prescription drugs if he/she is sick? It'll be believable if you're talking about doctors in developing countries that don't know any better.

^the whole thing with off the shelf meds is the danger of overdosing, especially with pain killers, you've also got to watch what things you eat/drink them with as it all has adverse affects

stick with the recommended dosage and instructions and you'll be fine

except anti-biotics, people who take em for stupid small things just encourage super bugs that are resistant to drugs :D

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I think everyone knows that overdosage or mixing of chemicals (eating food containing acetaminophen while taking Tylenol) are a danger to your health, but we're not talking about that. We're talking about people who simply tell you "off-the-shelf drugs are bad for you."

To those peeps: how is it bad for you if you're taking the correct dosage or if you're following the directions and not eat anything it tells you not to eat?
