help out with all the cleaning before new year
eat dinner together with all family member at the table
do all the praying, flowers, and food offering to the ancestors

morning .. knee down to wish your grand/parents happy new year and get your envelope ..firecracker, follow by temple, visit relatives, attend parade, hang with friends/family until the late hours. no shower the first day, no cleaning until the fourth day, visit your ancestor tombstone on the 7th day .. and there certain food you gotta eat and avoid during the new year too ... don't remember them all.

The Vietnamese new year is almost the same as the Chinese new year.

Sorry but NO, Vietnamese NY is different from Chinese NY .. it's only the same if you're from Chinese descent.
