Currently airing TVB time-traveling drama Captain of Destiny <張保仔> has been receiving scrutiny from viewers for the acting abilities of its cast. Grace Chan (陳凱琳) was previously criticized for poor acting, while male leads Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Tony Hung (洪永城) receive support.

Netizens drew up an online poll that pits them against each other in several areas, including acting abilities and looks. Contrary to earlier rumors that Tony’s promotion to male lead would pose as a threat to Ruco’s popularity, Ruco actually emerged the winner, with a total of 320 votes in the online poll. From the comments made by netizens, it also appears that many find Ruco superior to Tony in both acting abilities and physical appearance.

Being tall and muscular, Ruco had a natural advantage over Tony. Many netizens confirmed this. There were however, some dissenting netizens, who commented, “Are you wearing your glasses? There is such a big disparity between them!” Tony’s fans also jumped to his defense, commenting on his wit, sweet smile, and dreamy gaze.

In terms of acting, many netizens remarked that as a beginner, Tony had some distance to catch up before he could reach Ruco’s level. Some netizens even claimed that Ruco’s acting was what saved Captain of Destiny. A netizen summed up everyone’s sentiments with this comment, “Tony’s not bad but definitely nowhere near Ruco. Many of us here feel that Ruco’s acting is what salvaged the drama. This really shows how much the audience values Ruco.”

this is a vast understatement...as I said in other threads

Ruco's performance is by far the best among the others and he is ONLY reason why this series is even watchable in most parts. I would say his performance in this series is one of his best performance ever.

As a history nerd, I would LOVE to see him play Yong Zheng emperor in the future...his character in this series makes a good case for it

This is an unfair comparison... Tony is relatively new, whereas Ruco has been acting since ATV times.

I agree Ruco is probably the better actor, but Tony's acting is not bad at all. He's actually very good for a beginner. I enjoy watching him in comedies.

    Ruco is better looking. :D

Ok, Tony is a noob compare to Ruco but even when you don't compare them, I don't like his acting.

Maybe we should let him improve his skill...but I'm sure I'll never become a fan.

If he was more handsome maybe it will be better

Ruco was a klf in tvb back in the late 80s or 90s. Of course he was better.
