As a three-time TV King, Wayne Lai’s (黎耀祥) earning power has skyrocketed in mainland China. In the last few years, Wayne attended at least two shows per week in mainland due to his popularity. In 2013 alone, he raked in approximately $18 million HKD in show fees alone – that is ten times the amount Wayne gets from filming TVB dramas!

However, his star-earning power comes at a price. In a recent show for a bar, Wayne suffered from a lack of sleep for 48 hours straight. He first attended his first midnight promotion at a bar and sang four different songs with the audience. After he finished his performance, Wayne hopped into a van and drove off to a second bar and repeated his mini concert. Since both bars were owned by the same owner, Wayne even accepted his fee at a discounted price – $500,000 HKD for both shows as opposed to $300,000 HKD each.

As if performing back to back was not tiring enough, Wayne had to head back to TVB at 6 a.m. to film. The Best Actor may have earned a considerable amount of money recently, but after suffering from no sleep, even Wayne admitted that he no longer has the energy to handle the work hours anymore.

    Eccentric Pink Lady

While Wayne has been putting on non-stop performances, a particular lady in a low-cut pink top stood out above the rest. She was present during every one of Wayne’s shows and clung onto his arm every time. Her overly enthusiastic behavior nearly made Wayne trip and fall down, causing him to exclaim, “Wow, do I see you everywhere I go?”

    Saving Money For Son

Wayne joked that he works for his 16-year-old son, who is a sneaker enthusiast. Since his son is a teenager, Wayne turned down many mainland drama offers, including one where the compensation was 5 million RMB. Wayne said, “My son is 16 and is entering an important growth stage. I don’t want to see him every few months. With the current jobs I have right now, I can see him every other day or so. I don’t have many tens of years to spend; I rather work a little harder and save money for my son. I just hope that in the future, our lives will be better!”
