    it's beyond's hoi foot teen hung (海闊天空; the sea is as wide as the sky). it was released in 1993, the last time the band's lead singer was alive.

    as for "good chinese songs", it's going to depend on what type of music you like. if you like slow, formulaic, repetitive music, then by ALL means go listen to cantopop. pick any cantopop song and you'll probably find a similar tune. the background music is usually a simple piano line.

    if you want piano ballads that depend largely on vocals, then ballads sung by female mandarin soloists (e.g. jolin tsai) may be for you. but the majority of mandopop songs rely fairly heavily on complex, usually catchy, background music. by complex, I mean synthesized instrumentals, drum lines, the occasional electric guitar, etc.

    so yeah, it really depends on what you're into.
