I was at blockbuster last night and I decided to browse the foreign films and they were all from europe and mexico. Very few asian entertainment. Not to mention everything was fully in stock. When I was in class we got into a conversation about China and some one asked "what does china have to offer except cheap labor and hot girls". That annoyed me..anyway I said "what about there entertainment?" there were so many people who don't care for it. Many foreign films have few showings in America and small DVD release. And are really only shown on Spike TV anymore. I am big on foreign entertainment and I watch it alot and I can't talk to people about it because every one I talk to don't watch it.
well it's the same with hmv's as well -> "world" music = reggae and hispanic tunes. most of them, I'm guessing, just have this shield that tells them not to listen to asian music. even some of my own asian friends are like "can't understand it, too fobby for my taste, so I won't bother with it."
yeah its really not catching up in US like no one wants to watch something chinese, its like all these japanese action or scary movies lol
it is strange ... but Blockbuster in my area have some pretty new HK movies from time to time. sure they do not have everything that was released; but i doubt they have everything that was released from Korea / Japan.
the only asian movies that i've seen are jackie chan dubbed ones or bruce lee / martial arts ones with the awkwardly dubbed sounds....
well where i live theres a vid store that has korean, japanese and hk movies along with english ones. I'm sure there are plenty of stores that cater for your tastes, it just depends where you live or go to.
hmmm..the blockbusters in my area has a wide selection on asian entertainment...same as the library aswel...
that's why i turn to the internet. i don't even go to blockbuster anymore because all they have are just hollywood movies and american versions of asian movies. i only started getting interested in asian entertainment this past year or two or maybe three after my friend introduced me to some stuff she liked and i got hooked.
Really depends on where you live. My area's blockbuster has a big variety of movies and lots of asian one too.
^also depends on big distributors. If they willing to pay for the movie and to put it into shops Only popular movies usually get the big american studios interested, well once they have proven profitable in the asia market. so jackie chan films, jet li films. Films like Internal Affairs which was very popular back in Asia took ages to launch abroad and limited too
funny cause i was at the library looking for travel books to japan and i found a billion on europe a million on USA and like 2 on japan that were years old but when i went to the film section besides english, the next top number of films were all in chinese (NOT SPANISH cause i'm in the USA)
and im sure all of us here can get out foreign ent fill from the indi vid stores or as someone said...the net...
i find a bunch of new korean series and asian series at my local library + cds.. and last time i went to walmart, they had a new section called "music of asia" in the music section. I found rain, jay, jolin, rainie, lee hom, jason chan and a bunch of other cds there. but they were all like leftovers at yesasia and its cheaper on yesasia too! cause they were charging like $22 per cd ><
