    I looking for an External Hard Drive or Passport with around 500gb to 1tb. Something good with a low price.

    How long does these things last, my last MD EHD broke in like 6 months. :facepalm:

    -shrug I've been using a Western Digital 1TB Element Portable size (2.5" that doesn't require power adapter) for over a year already and still works fine.

    none are good as they come with just 1 year warranty;
    what you should get is an internal hard drive + hdd enclosure; that way you hdd has warranty of either 2-year (WD blue) or 5-year (WD black) warranty depending on the model of the drive you have
    i always get an enclosure (3.5") with an on/off switch as i can turn it off when not in use; the prepackaged ext hdd usually do not have switches and they slp when after x amount of time not in use and is slow to get them going
    and of course the 2.5" don't have a switch and are powered via USB ports (that are direct soldered onto the motherboard), if you use a usb hub that is not external powered, usually it wont' start

    there are only SG (seagate) and WD (western digital) around, other brand names like Verbatim, Buffalo, etc uses either one of those drives...Samsung is now a division of SG and Hitachi is a division of WD...
