AmD is better for video games
P4 is a bit faster in processor
i was thinking to build my pc from scratch but too lazy to do so

if i were you, i would build my own machine equipped with amd athlon 64 because amd processor is a little bit speedy sometimes if you run a speed test comparison with intel p4 processor.

exactly...each person here has a different use...the main question before you even start anything..what are you going to be using this machine first...be logical about this...

Actually, it all depends on what are you running on your PC. Generally, Athlon 64 is good for general applications, including games. However, if you are thinking of doing multimedia editing, then the latest P4 Dual Core would be a good buy, as it has a better floating ALU

I would go for P4.. if you can get the latest, get the Dual Core model.

get an opteron, outperforms P4. Runs on less voltage and much cheaper than the p4's. Easily runs on par and greater than the FX-57. Also, great for multi-tasking.

that's true ..... we can't really help him if we don't know what he's mostly using it for .....

As for what I would get ..... it would have to be AMD ..... but that's because i like to play games

Agree that the P4 Dual Core is good.
