nah, you're just probably talking about the occasional fooling around/teasing. "you're mean" is probably just something to say when you fall short of a witty remark to comeback another comment. It's also used often by girls to be "cute". If you ask me, I'd rather be THREATENING! bwah ahaha! -devil
Although I agree with what "suijei" said... I think the comment that you made (your mom) was very rude. I don't like it when people (including my friends) joke around about my parents like that. For instance, if I told my guy friend that he's retarded (jokingly of course) and he retorts by saying "you're mom!" I would totally go off on him. I just think it's plain disrespectful... And so I'm guessing that by saying "you're mean", she probably meant that you were being rude. What exactly did she say to make you say that anyway?

Going with the flow is limited by what's actually allowed to be said. There are always lines... as long as you learn something when someone says "you're rude" then you're learning. If everyone says "you're rude" and not in a teasing when... then take a hint... YOU'RE RUDE.
