The approaching May 21st broadcast of TVB drama, Master of Play <心戰> has recently stirred heated discussions over its controversial theme: a psychotic and cannibalistic serial killer. Portraying friendly/cheerful characters in recent years, Moses Chan’s role as a serial killer will certainly spark debate in Hong Kong, in which moral judgments are still strong amongst the middle-aged population that gripped the capability in swaying television ratings’ results.

TVB’s most daring duo, producer Jonathan Chik (戚其義) and scriptwriter Zhou Xuming (周旭明), integrated cannibalism from When Heaven Burns <天與地> in new drama, Master of Play. Although When Heaven Burns has been a great success, the ratings did not deliver. With its intense content that was not family friendly, it has been widely speculated that Master of Play will likely suffer in ratings as well. It was asked whether Master of Play will axe the present positive trend in drama ratings that TVB was enjoying. TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming (曾醒明), admitted that the theme of Master of Play was rather intense. However, the organization wanted to give a refreshing experience to audiences and thus chose to air it in May.

Moses’ character is a magician on the outside, but a serial killer who also ate the flesh of his victims. Moses engaged in a battle of wits with neurotic theater master, Adam Cheng (鄭少秋). Obsessive about searching for the whereabouts of his kidnapped daughter for the past twenty-five years, Adam was uncertain whether his daughter was still alive. Adam became the essential link for the police in acquiring the mindset and methods of Moses’ serial killer character.

sounds interesting, but i'm also afraid it won't be a success in ratings, thanks to the conservative "netizens" (read: "see lies").

way to go moses. I like to see the cast in different roles. TVB is so comfortable sticking the actors/actress in the same roles. They have no imagination what so ever. I mean their actors, they should be able to take on new roles whether its evil or good. Good to see some changes. Maybe the quality of tvb's stories will improve.....maybe not. I've only been watching jdrama, kdrama, and maybe one or two tvb series with actors I like watching but even those aren't worth watching anymore.

These type of dramas can be a hit or a miss, depending on how well they execute it.

I'm looking forward for this drama, and i applaud TVB for making this kind of dramas cuz some viewers can really get tired of the same plots and types of dramas.

I think they are trying to in a way "westernize" a little the HK dramas, which is good because we can have a wider variety to choose from.

I just hope the story is good...

i cant wait for this! =D netizens are too close minded. not every drama has to be about romance, love, or justice. leave room for those that are a bit out there as well. =.=
