Its a standalone version of Windows XP..Incorporates nearly all features of XP Professional except certain advanced networking features (namely joining a domain) aswell as a standalone Media Centre program(thus the name Media Centre Edition). MCE lets you do things such as watch tv,dvd, record tv, play music, view photos etc all with a remote control or MCE enabled keyboard.. No point upgrading to it unless you have components needed for a MCE and will use your PC as a dedicated MEdia Centre PC..
