Hey everyone, I know very little about computers and just now my computer went nuts. In the toolbar, there's this program called Antivirus Scan that has a little flag that says "Window Security Alert. Window reports that computer is infected." I click it and it runs a scan that shows 34 high risk things and that I have to buy the program in order for it to delete them. There are popups saying Security Warning, Application cannot be executed the file blah blah (these are different every time it pops up) is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?" I have run Avast free antivirus and deleted the file harmful things... I don't know what to do since Avast didn't stop the windows thing. Please help me :(
There's also an INFILTRATION ALERT Antivirus software alert on the side that says my computer is being attacked by an internet virus. What can I do?

You have been infected by a well known fake antivirus malware. See this thread for the solution to the exact same problem: Avt.exe - Popular Asians - Entertainment Destination But in a nutshell, this msg explains it all::
Thanks!! It deleted it but I'm paranoid that something's still left that might steal my passwords or something... Is that possible? I did a system restore to how my computer was two weeks, don't know if that helps. I have Windows vista and I want to do a full system recovery. I already backed up all my files. But I don't have a system recovery disc that will recover it back to factory settings. Is there anywhere I can get this?
I recovered my brother's laptop without disc, he has window's vista too. I did not find the disc useful at all honestly, although a disc copy is very important . Initially I recovered using disc that came along with laptop, but system did not perform as expected for some strange reason, so I recovered using the preinstalled operating system. For full factory restore, try this, I can't exactly remember from heart, its something like this: 1) Press F8 when restart, you need to do it fast before system loads 2) System asks you for password, if you never had one before then leave blank. You should select either your user name or the administrator. If it does not work, try the other 3) This should take you into a number of options, select the last one (restore to factory setting) 4) You can choose emergency back up or remove completely and install fresh one. I normally wipe out everything, as I save essential thing on usb only. Once its cleared, you should burn your own disc.
yes this COULD happen and might slow the computer down as well...whenever there is a virus i reinstall my OS, period, it takes 20 mins to put my image back on with all the applications...and i never used antivirus since then... vista is similar to windows 7, u COULD do the factory default (only if you didn't delete the partition) and program the windows to your specifications (settings, etc) and install all the apps, activate any apps and create a maintenance procedure by creating a system image from the windows app, vola, u got urself and image of everything, and u need not need another antivirus program ever
Pmint has a good start there. Keep in mind the system partition set aside when the machine was setup may be needed. If you're lucky, your laptop manufacture may offer a recovery CD as a download from their website.
