Hi my modem is Virgin Media "Ambit" model E08C013.00 and I recently bought Belkin's N Wireless Router & USB Adapter. I've never used wireless before and I've read the installation guide many times but I still don't understand it and I don't want to disconnect everything then it not work and then my internet goes all funny.. Can someone please help me? I'm useless with this stuff!
This should give some visual help: Along with a general guide: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx Visuals for another router: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kawBR2YtjmA And another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlvYyWbzVa0 Knoc
plug your virgin media modem into the router, then plus the usb device into your pc, sync the two devices, all done.
Thanks for both your help. The plugging was successful. Might sound stupid but do you need a wireless laptop to use that? I'm really confused as to what to do next! My computer works find because it's plugged in but the laptop doesn't :S
You need to search for the wireless network using the laptop. Erm, I'm guessing you'll need to set the router up (like set a password key on it)
Wireless Network card needed, could be in your laptop, if you don't have it, you need to buy a laptop wireless network card. Or if you're cheap you can just unplug the cable from your computer and plug it into you laptop, there's a lot of work needs to be done in this way...
belkin was sued and lost for settlement .. i got a lot of their products worth like $300 and luckily i kept all my receipts so i ended up with full reimbursement .. the prob was that the products do not live up to its claim .. speed was actually slower with belkin router so yeah .. wouldn't recommend it. i am still using cuz i already have it otherwise, i'll shop for another brand.
I cant complain about my Belkin W-Lan Router Vision. Using Virgin Media with 20MB aswell and I get full speed with the Router. Actually there are not that many factors in which the router could affect the speed. Only if you turn all security options to the maximum would affect the speed, but not that much that it would be annoying. You need go to the Router Interface and turn the W-Lan function ON. Then you have to set a name and a password for the Wireless Network. It is really improtant to set a password, because if someone else using your line for illegal stuff, you are the one who takes responsibilty for the action. After you set up the router, you need a W-LAN ready laptop. Search for the W-Lan you just setup up, enter the password and everything should workin fine then.
Thanks. My laptop is now set up. The internet is working fine now turns out, there was a button on the keyboard to turn on the wireless
