An 82-year-old woman was stabbed in a London street while out on a shopping trip, police said on Tuesday. Detectives said the woman was found with nine stab wounds after officers were called to Harlesden in northwest London on Monday afternoon. She was taken to hospital and is said to be in a stable condition. The petite, grey-haired pensioner was carrying three shopping bags but officers said it was believed nothing had been stolen. Police said the motive for the attack was baffling and are keeping an open mind. "The investigation is in its early stages and enquiries are on-going to fully establish the victims movements on the day," said Detective Inspector Ian Lott. The 5ft 2ins victim, who is married and lives locally, had been shopping in Harlesden High Street and was seen outside the Tesco supermarket there. Police said she might then have taken a bus before being attacked about 40 minutes later. She staggered around the corner where she was helped by a passer-by. Detectives said they were seeking a man, aged between 30 and 45, in connection with the stabbing.
Perhaps the assaulter was a mentally unstable subject. It doesn't happen every day that someone sees you on a transit vehicle, decides they don't like something about you, and proceeds to repeatedly stab you. I hope the women comes out of the hospital safe and sound. The damage to her body however will probably never be recovered in her lifetime... given her current age of 82. Poor little old lady.
^ i think all people who stab and kill are mentally unstable, doesn't mean they are any less responsible for what they do.
That is true. I'm not a law expert so I ask, is it a valid fighting point (in london or UK) to go in court with evidence of your mentally unstable state, and use it to prove you are not guilty of the crime? I remember learning in law class that if you can prove you're crazy, with doctors letters, clinical tests, etc, you've got an excuse not to be charged (in canada).
^yeah, its pretty crazy imo, i know of some guy who got out of prison by pretending to be crazy, he supposedly went as far as putting poo on his face. This whole viewpoint is based on the secular humanist belief that humans are naturally good and illness makes them bad.
That is really fucked up. Personally (not legally now), I believe it should depend on each case individually. If someone who claimed insanity and committed "petty" crime - stealing or whatever - then I think it's fine to lock them up in a mental institution and/or release to the family. However, if someone who claimed insanity and committed "murder" - intentional or not; then I feel that this individual should be put to death. Why so harsh? Since this person is crazy, I highly doubt that it can ever be 100% cure and will continue to be a threat to society. Locking them up is just wasting our tax money when it should be better spent on things like education and healthcare. Of course, saying is easier than applying the law in reality cuz a lot of people will claim that mentally ill patients can't defend themselves .. what "if they were set up" but didn't commit the crime; whatever ... nevertheless, I feel the message the legal system should send out the public is that no matter who you are - mentally ill or not, you're responsible for your action. Guardians of mentally instable people have the legal responsibility to make sure they're not out to commit crime.
this kinda shit things happens alot in my country, these buggers here just want to snatch their handbags,so at times dragging them with them motorcycles, some women fell and knock their head , went into coma and died. So, anyone visiting here, dont take hand bags
