TVB’s upcoming Qing Dynasty comedy drama, Food for the Slaves <食為奴>, has begun shooting in Hong Kong. Produced by Inbound Troubles <老表,你好嘢!> executive producer, Wong Wai Sing (黃偉聲), Food for the Slaves stars Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) as a humble “golden-tongued” chef Ko Tin Po, who later finds his way to befriend Emperor Yongzheng (Ben Wong 黃智賢) after he is hired as an imperial chef in the Forbidden City.

A scene from the first episode of the serial was filmed on March 9. The scene involved Nancy Wu (胡定欣), who portrays Cho Lam’s love interest Nin Yuek Bik, giving out some steamed buns and baked cakes to the homeless. As Cho Lam fights for some food, he is brutally knocked down by others. Nancy witnesses the scenario and offers Cho Lam a warm cake. Cho Lam cries and exclaims, “I am already full!”

Cho Lam spilled that his character in Food for the Slaves will be a great challenge to his acting abilities. Cho Lam spoiled that the serial will be a tragicomedy, and said, “It’s a big test. In the end, I will lose Nancy and suffer a mental breakdown. I will need to face loss and death. I am used to portraying happy characters, and it’s rare for me to take part in rather serious roles.”

Cho Lam, who took part in writing the script for Inbound Troubles, was asked if he participated in the screenplay of Food for the Slaves as well. Cho Lam said, “I did offer some ideas, but I will not change too much. The scriptwriters did a very good job on the script. As of now, I will focus on my role as an actor. I felt like my acting was not that great in Inbound Troubles because I was too preoccupied with the script.”

Food for the Slaves will also see the return of several Inbound Troubles stars, such as Joey Meng (萬綺雯), Louis Cheung (張繼聰), Bob, and May Chan (陳嘉佳).

Cho Lam Responds to “Traitor” Claims

In regards to the Hong Kong government’s recent order on limiting its baby milk formula exports to mainland China, Cho Lam commented on his Weibo earlier that he supported the government’s decision. He posted “Hong Kong has a reason to pass down this law. If mainland Chinese milk formula were made well, their people wouldn’t have to come down to Hong Kong buy it!”

Deleting his last post, Cho Lam quickly clarified in another Weibo post, “Maybe I did not convey my message correctly. How about this: The husband and wife are arguing. No one knows who is right and wrong. Maybe it is a misunderstanding, or maybe the problem itself is at fault. But the husband will say, ‘If it wasn’t me who gave you food and clothes, you will already be dead! If I stopped feeding you water and food, I want to see how long you survive!’ Will this be able to save a relationship? We need to respect each other, communicate thoroughly, and love each other. These words are for those who want to maintain their relationships in good health. I hope you will all be great gentlemen!”
