Yammie Nam’s (藍潔瑛) mental instability continues to spiral out of control. Not even her closest friends are able to help her. The former TVB actress’ condition was brought to the public’s awareness in 2004, when she was first admitted to the hospital for unstable mental health. In 2013, Yammie revealed that she was raped by two industry leaders over twenty years ago, which allegedly played a part in her deteriorating mental health. However, Yammie quickly denied her own rape accusations after the interview was exposed.

The troubled 51-year-old has been living on welfare since she filed for bankruptcy over 10 years ago. Rumors say that many of her old friends and colleagues — including Andy Lau (劉德華) and Margie Tsang (曾華倩) — have tried to help by lending her money. Close friends also tried to find jobs for her, and Yammie’s fans in Mainland China managed to raise nearly 20,000 RMB for her in early 2015. Despite concerns coming from close friends and fans, Yammie’s living and health conditions did not improve.

    Yammie Stops Going to Church

In early 2014, Yammie was spotted going to church with friend Mary Yeung (楊曼莉), hoping that finding religious faith would improve her mental condition. However, Yammie stopped attending church after only a few sessions. Yammie and Mary’s relationship also turned sour.

Mary said, “She’s always calling me in the middle of the night to yell at me, telling me that I dumped her parents’ [Buddhist] beads and that I should pay her back. She was the one who said she saw demons in them, so that’s why I tossed them away. Now she’s telling me she won’t forgive me. She has delusions. I didn’t think she was sick before, but now I believe it! I’m afraid of her now.”

    Suffers from Uterine Fibroid

In addition to her mental instability, Yammie is also diagnosed with a uterine fibroid. But Yammie refused to seek regular treatment, as she is afraid of taking medication and being admitted to a hospital. Former actress Lana Wong (黃夏蕙) said, “I try to take her to the doctor, but she refuses to go each time. Sometimes, she would promise to go with me, but in the end she never shows up.”

Eating and shopping alone has become a routine for Yammie every day. In early March, Yammie ate by herself in the corner of a busy restaurant. After finishing her dinner, she went out outside and smoked for a few hours, muttering mindlessly to herself. Yammie was in an emotional state, and consistently wiped the tears off her face. After leaving the restaurant, she sat in front of a train entrance and continued to smoke for another hour.

Last week, the reporters caught Yammie returning to her home in Stanley. Yammie immediately attacked the reporters with her umbrella, shouting, “Move over! What are you doing? Leave! This is illegal! Who are you? What’s your name?”

Yammie is speculated to be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. She refuses help from friends and is always suspicious of others’ motives. Friend Siu Yam Yam (邵音音) said, “Her condition hasn’t really improved. She’s always tense and afraid that someone would harm her!”
