Yoyo Mung (蒙嘉慧) has been married to Ekin Cheng (鄭伊健) for four months now. When asked if she is used to her current status, she frankly admitted that she is not. “When people call me Mrs. Cheng, I may not reply. I would only reply if you call me Ah Yo.”

Nonetheless, Yoyo’s lifestyle has not changed much besides the way people refer to her. “We’ve actually lived together for a while, and we understand each other’s lifestyle. Life after marriage is not a big change for me. Our address hasn’t changed, and all the furniture hasn’t changed. It’s just that there is now a slightly loose ring on my finger. Instead, I would sometimes forget to call him my ‘husband’ after our marriage. Many times, I refer to him as Ekin.”

Both still young children at heart, Yoyo and Ekin are playful people who love sports. “He is good at everything, especially water sports. I go diving with him even though I can’t swim. We look for fun in the activity. We try everything, and go from up in the mountains to down in the sea.”

Yoyo grew up in a disintegrated family. Her parents divorced before she was born, and she was raised by her grandmother. In 2007, Yoyo was left with grief when her grandmother passed away. Soon after, her mother entered the hospital due to health issues. At the time, Yoyo had been working in mainland China, and Ekin took care of her mother.

Yearning to have someone support her in times of need, Yoyo wanted their relationship to become more stable. “Ekin used to be a very shy person who didn’t like to communicate with others. But he put in his best efforts to coax my mother. He spent time with her so that I didn’t have to worry. Everything he did was for me. It was very sweet.”

    Future Plans

Tabloids have pointed out that the currently airing A Great Way to Care 2 <仁心解碼II> is Yoyo’s last TVB drama. Since then, different rumors spread regarding her upcoming plans. Yoyo quickly denied reports that she intends to have a baby at the expense of her career.

“We’ve discussed before that we will not have a baby, because it really is a lot of trouble. I don’t want a child to grow up in an environment full of harassment either. For me, being pregnant for ten months is like being in jail. I can’t hike in the mountains or dive in the sea. So please don’t bother me.”

In terms of filming for TVB, Yoyo expressed, “If there are suitable scripts and roles in the future, I would definitely return. I am a person who really has to work. In my world, acting is more than anything. Whether or not I will sign with HKTV, it will be up to my manager who will discuss with them for me. I will try it if there is a suitable role. For instance, I took the initiative to film for RTHK’s Elite Brigade 2 <火速救兵II> last year. That role was a new experience for me, and it felt really realistic. The firemen taught me their classification system and work steps. I only do the work I want to do. Besides work right now, I hope I am able to do more good deeds, because being able to help others is the happiest thing.”
