Yumiko Cheng: I can handle it.

Yumiko Cheng, who lost her pants during an acrobatics on Saturday night’s Tung Wah Charity Show, has become the hot topic of HK’s entertainment industry. Right after the incident, there were over 20 footages available of the incident on youtube, with a footage having over 254,795 views. The singer cried uncontrollably backstage and rejected to have any interviews.

After her performance, Yumiko rushed backstage and avoided the media but after calming herself down, Yumiko, accompanied by her manager, emerged and spoke of her feelings. She was then questioned by the media and appeared to be strong.

Yumiko returned to stage with her performance partners, Chin Karlok and Nancy Wu. She commented, “Thank you for everyone’s support. This was only a small accident. The most important thing is that no one was injured. Please continue to support Tung Wah!”

In the backstage, her manager, Mani, firmly told reporters that Yumiko would only be speaking about her feelings and will not accept any questions. Teary eyed, Yumiko said, “Many friends have called to comfort me. I have only come back for an interview so that people won’t be worried. This accident was no one’s fault. Everyone had tried their best.” Throughout the interview, Chin Kalok rested his hands on Yumiko’s shoulders to show support. Before quick departure, Yumiko said, “I can handle it.”

Later, through a phone interview, Mani said, “Yumiko was upset when she saw the headlines and images. The company has given her a break and she will return to work on the 11th. (Will Yumiko take more safety procedures next time?) The company did all safety procedures but accidents are unavoidable. No ones wants accidents to occur.”
