it depends on how the technology works because since the more capacity the flash have, the slower the transfer speed. Unless they can figure the transfer rate, that it shouldn't be that bad. But then again, flash memory isn't as reliable. Even though more laptops are going to SSDs which is flash. But I guess we'll see, maybe Samsung will prove me wrong. So every 8 months the capacity will double and price will drop by half. Because I'm in the flash/dram business so it is good news but then who really need 120gb flash memory? Will video/music download files be in HD? If it is, then maybe 120GB of memory is need, but with the so called "high-speed" connects we got now, downloading a HD video file will take forever. So let's just all hope that internet connection technology will take us there soon.
I would gladly trade reliability for portability in a laptop, in fact, the traditional HDs with moving parts can be so unreliable in a laptop since they are not supposed to be moved during operation (else it may be damaged) Plus, slimmer laptop! Although I would say a 64GB would suffice for a laptop, there's always external HDs if more storage space is needed...
yea, it's a step forward for thinner laptops. but external hd will need power, even tho there are those hhd that just using the usb port as power source. I just don't want to lose my data because of sudden power outage or blackouts. Flash can be fried too easily I guess. Maybe I'm not trying to say that it's a bad idea, but maybe in the future when nand tech gets better. Just like OS, to gaming consoles. I usually don't get it until I wait for maybe 6-12months after it comes out. companies are pretty lazy and there are always deadlines to push certain products. So there will be bugs, just wait until the companies take care of the bugs first. Example would be window vista, "red ring of death" (xbox360). That's y I tend to wait before adapting to new tech.
