Billups was released for the Chandler move, if Billups really wanted another ring, he can join the Mavs even after Howard's picked up by using the MLE...

He's still under the amnesty provision so a team could bid and get him if they wanted. Of course they'd probably be scared since Billups has basically out right said he'll resent any team that does so.

so sad to see lamar go, but he had to be moved one way or another after this mess stern created. mitch knows better than to make a straight salary dump of such a talented player in lamar, not to mention sending him to conference rival at that. the traded player exception the lakers received from the mavs will NOT be enough for the lakers to take on turkoglu's contract. something is definitely fishy.

i was ecstatic about the possibility of CP3 becoming a laker, and still had high hopes that a restructured deal would come through, but david stern is drunk on power and way in over his heard (some sources say he also rejected the restructured deal, asking more from the lakers). i really feel for the hornets and the rockets now. the hornets lost any and all leverage they had in negotiating with other teams. they will not see a better offer than the one stern turned down. it's inevitable that they will now be lowballed or even left with nothing for CP3. the rockets have been set back a couple years and lost their chance at a top-5 front court of pau gasol and nene (who they seemed poised to sign). it also doesn't help things much to have a disgruntled kevin martin and luis scola on the team.

what a mess david stern has created. prior to this debacle, i really held him in high regard and thought he was the best commissioner in professional sports. but this, this has tarnished his legacy and his reputation will forever be linked to this mess. fuck you david stern.

no, the lakers have enuff to take on turkeyglue's contract... Odom's trade exception + sasha's = roughly $14million... plus, if they end up swapping Gasol and Bynum for Howard, they'd have a lot of room left to play with...

David Stern definitely need to go. The Lakers deal was the best deal on the market for chris paul that the hornets could expect in present time. However, who is to say the clippers might not fold and include eric gordon in their offer once we r closer to the trade deadline. I am suprised that the Lakers gave up on the deal so easily. The merit of dealing odom to dallas and switching focus on getting howard are debatable. If they had persevered on the cp3 deal, they would had a starting five of cp3, bryant, bynum, artest n a PF (whoever that may be). By dealing odom away, they would need to deal gasol n bynum away to get howard n maybe torkuglu (or something like that). That leaves the starting five as fisher, bryant, artest, terkugluey, howard. The chris paul option looks better by the minute. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely to say that the magic would prefer the lakers package more than the nets package. The nets can offer better draft picks and also brook lopez, who in my opinion is better offensively than bynum as a young center and definitely less injury prone. The lakers could end with nothing in the end.

uhm... they don't need to trade bynum AND gasol to absorb D12 and Turkoglu's contract... it's 150% of salary... so technically all they would need is a 3rd team to make it happen as that would only leave a $4 million void... money is not a problem in this trade at all, the Lakers have so much to play around with it's stupid...

Even if the maths adds up for the lakers and they can accommodate either one of bynum or gasol + howard n turkoglu into the team, would the magics do such a deal? Giving up howard + a bad contract just for one of gasol n bynum? Surely, a team like the nets or clippers could offer a better package of picks n players.

Fuck the league. Fuck the owners. This is complete bullshit. Bring back the lockout.
I was thinking about this over a lot and I honestly think Bynum is better than Lopez when he's healthy. The only concern with Bynum is his health, everyone knows he has the talent, proof of it was shown in the playoffs where he dominated and outplayed Pau. However Lopez isn't that bad either. He's young and he can score. He still needs to work on his rebounding and defence a little though, which pale in comparison to Bynum. In the end I'd pick Lopez over Bynum in the case of a long term rebuilding process.

Also a video tribute to B Roy.

One of the players I rooted for to do well. Too sad :(

aoes, you can't combine traded player exceptions. giving up gasol and bynum for dwight would be essentially giving up gasol, bynum, and odom. i love dwight to death, but that's a king's ransom for even him.

Gotta get into that sweet sweet draft class. I don't think I've ever been this excited for a draft in a while.

CP3 to clippers should be all but done by the time i wake up. a great trade for the clippers, and the hornets definitely got lowballed. a starting 5 of chris paul, eric gordon, caron butler, blake griffin, and deandre jordan, with mo williams playing a jason terry type role instantly makes the clippers a top team IMO. now that all these nba fans will inevitably hop onto the clippers bandwagon, i'm proud to say that i was a clippers fan before chris paul, and even before blake griffin. :)

that said, i'm still devastated that i won't be able to see a dream team of KB24-CP3-DH12. for 3 hours, chris paul was a laker and i'll always remember that. -cry2 at least deliver on dwight mitch!

wow... CP3 to the clippers for Gayman, bledsoe, aminu and minny's unprotected first round... that is terrible in every way... New Orleans are gonna have to bank on ricky rubio to be fairly useless and net them a lottery pick...

Stern sending CP3 to the Clippers is just plain stupid, how is that better than the Lakers getting CP3? Clips now have two bonafide superstars with potentially Eric Gordon becoming one this year as well if he picks up where he left off before getting injured last season... they also have Jordan who was a defensive beast...

srsly still don't see how Kaman, bledsoe and aminu > odom, kevmart, scola and dragic...

Cause Odom and Scola are pretty old. Also the value of the timberwolves' lottery pick cannot be understated. Rubio honestly doesn't look that great and even if he lives up to expectations, that team is still trash. You also don't need a top 3 pick in the 2012 draft to net yourself a quality player. Also the Lakers deal allowed LA to dump a lot of salary for taking on a superstar, which is one of the alleged reasons why the owners/NBA didn't like the trade.

I like both trades for NO, hard for me to say which was is better for them. Short term wise the Lakers trade might have been better, but long term the one with Clippers might work out depending on who they draft. Expect a lot of teams who are trading this season to stack on those draft picks, as 2012 is expected to be one of the deepest classes in a while.

no... bro, if the Lakers had the OK to do the trade, they would only get roughly $12million in a "salary dump"(aka trade exception) vs the $8.9 million they have now dumping Odom in Dallas, how the fck was that ok... don't see dan gilbert bitching bout that one... which they would have used to eat turkeyglue's contract while picking up D12... the Lakers are in it to win the league, not make salary dumps...

and no one out there believes the clippers package > the lakers package... KevMartin alone probably sells more jerseys and puts more seats in the arena than kaman, bledsoe and aminu combined... the pick is a nice piece, but a pick is a gamble, and is a gamble worth 3 borderline all stars on your team? remember, Scola had a beast of a season last year, his best year, KevMartin is 24pts a night and Odom is probably an all star if he takes a larger role...

this was one of Stern's larger mistakes in his career... this was all about NOT sending CP3 to the Lakers and potentially making a big 3 in LA...
