if she is lying to you about how much she spent for you on a birthday present, who knows what else she can be lying to you about on top of that if you continue your friendship.....i would re-evaluatie this firendship with this person and determine whether its worth it or not

As long as you like the present, it is fine. The only problem is that your friend lied to you about the cost of the products.

At your age, everyone has about the same financial status. The only main source of money is probably part-time jobs and money from parents. Can't really blame her for being cheap, but can blame her for being a liar.

In your case, I would be mad. I mean I dun mind people being cheap if they really dun have money to spend. I have a friend who is not a big spender and has lots of savings but one thing is she is really cheap...like i dun mind ppl being cheap but what gets me upset is everytime we go out to eat, we order our own meal and she orders her own meal too (like the cheapest one on the menu) and then she goes and finishes others left over food. That I find very rude and ridiculous. I mean she has the $$$ to order a complete meal!

Anyway, back to your case, what gets to me is the lying part~ I mean good friends shouldn't need to lie to each other~ I wouldn't mind what my friends give me for my bday since I know it's from the heart and that's enough~

lol this sounds like something I would do. Except I wouldn't tell you how much it cost me. But if you ask, I would probably lie too. On the other hand, I'm genuinely poor so whatever =P

I think price only matter to an extent, it seems like you are just assuming all this.

Yeah I know what you mean I have had friends like that. Actually many friends like that. I don't understand what they are thinking. My b-day just past and for the past year on all the people that came to my b-day I bought them something for their b-day it ranged $10-$20 per person on their presents. But when it came my b-day mainly the guys didn't even get me a present. I had a hard time with that because I told my girl friends and my boyfriend how much time how much time and effort i spent on the guy's present when it was thier b-day. Yet when it comes to my b-day I get nothing at all. So i decided to not be friends with them any more. On top of that my b-day they ruin my b-day party that my boy friend and female frd threw for me by bringing poker and invited everyone to play it except for me.

It's ok. We were all poor at least once in our lifetime. I didn't even have clothes when I first came into this world.

Are you serious? Must of been hard for you during those times.

  18. i know how that is, i have always had money to spend on people and most of the time im generous but I feel like i hardly get anything in return, it would be nice to get something for a change... its like me and my friends never go out to a nice place to eat and i always wanted to.. and it took me offering to pay 50% of the bill for them to come, the bill came to $410 and i but down my $205 and they split the rest between i think 8 other people....... so yeah.... tell me about spending money >____< now i don't even bother..... its all about myself now... if i have money, it going to myself only unless someone has given me a gift then im obligated to return the gesture

Come on, there must be some thing that brings you two together than these stationery items! I would look at the overall picture and decide on it. Every one lies.. it is a fact of life, there is no need to get up tight on just a few lies. Lies in its more moderate form is called: being economical with the truth... and even milder form is called virtual reality. If you hate lies and cheats and cannot cope with it then I would move away from those people who places material things more than human feelings and move to those who value integrity, kindness and humility... and of course...endless compassion and loving relationship. On this forum I think people call those girls gold diggers, however, there is no need to over react until you are sure to see a trend. Remember gold diggers may work to your advantage as they dig gold for you... however there is no universal rule that this happens. You have to recognise that in future you may endorse such acts and keep silent when this girl gives out $4 to people pretending it is $20. Others would be disappointed too, as you did. But right now, she spent $4 on you, OK , give her benefit of the doubt , think of it as 20 bucks and wait and see. But if the trend is asymmetric then start to have doubts.

well i agree that its about the human feelings and normally a gift is about the effort and thought. though if they gave it to u and lied to u about the price, it shows that as a person they probably aren't gonna like u that much if they have the money also. @ AkkiOnimusha i feel sorry for man. such cheap skates to not even want to pay the bill. theres a lot of ppl too. thankfully my friends will all be willing to split the price equally.
