im unnecessarily quoting the whole rant and ima ask a question that didnt require me to do that.gfight1 does your uni have any backups?
funnily there is WoW on my laptop, since I used to play it but no more as it's crap yes this is my gundergraduate degree.. This is the only lecture for the whole of 2nd years and a small number of 3rd years, Thursdays 5 - 6. As with seminar for the particular module that I was affected with is based 2 hours before the lecture so when the announcement was made that Doherty was "sick" again, I can't use the Friday's seminar to catch up as I have a lecture that happens to clash with that seminar too. It means I have lost out and I have to rely on my friends on what the seminar outcome was in order to do my "journal" The university does not supply online lectures., only to the modules where they don't teach but other universities do. Our lecture notes/slides and seminar questions are post online however the presentation for the seminars or the outcome of the questions to clarify whether our work is correct or not is not posted up for 2nd and 3rd years. Also the lecture notes are too brief if there were back-ups would i be ranting about this? lol, maybe i should post up the 2 emails that contradict each other... one by Kath is an SVR who knows background info, the other is by Carl who is a course rep but only attended to the stupid meeting I went to but doesn't know anything about the insde information that SVRs & some lecturers have (kinda like a board meeting that they have)
E-mails sent by Course Rep (1st) and SVR (2nd) after the meeting To all students We are aware that comments of a recent meeting held for all 2nd and 3rd year students yesterday about absentism has been circulated. Some of those facts are incorrect and misleading. Please find below a more accurate account of the meeting from those who attended. It was raised about introducing outside staff to cover absentism. The question about re-introducing Hourly Paid Lecturers (HPL) was not an option now or in the future due to governmental cutbacks and the logistics. Professor Stuckey stated unfortunately there is no financial pot available. The university are placing the strain upon the existing lecturers to double up and cover for absentisms. The contigency mentioned was that: lecturers will share their module content with other lecturers so in the future there will be adequate cover in such circumstances. It was accepted something was better than nothing. For lecturers whom have had prolonged sick leave which results into lost lectures and tutorials, we were informed that no student would be disadvantaged at the end of their degrees. What students will be assessed upon would be only what they have been taught and, that which will be taught will be the core parts to that module to attain your degree. Professor Stuckey did say we would be inconvenienced, and apologised for that, but in his words 'unfortunaetly the world is not always fair, and this is one of those times.' He added that the University are not taking this issue flippantly but all is being done which can humanly be done to minimise the disruption. He also extended his appreciation and thank to all the students for being understanding and patient under such times of diversity. We do hope the above clarifies the position. Kindest regards Carl and Pam Taylor course reps LLB ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hiya All, For those who don't know me already im Kath the Student Voice Rep fro HaSS, and am in 2nd year Law. I gather from the meeting with Michael Stuckey on wednesday that it was unproductive and people are still not happy with the issue regarding absent lectures. If it helps, I have already taken this issue to the faculty board meeting and is being dealt with, but just to update you all on progress if it helps, i have just outlined some of the points that was discussed. In the meeting we discussed contingency plans in events that teachers end up away for prolonged periods of time. it was said that they are aware that there have been substantial absenses in law, and that if needs be there is a contingency fund for those modules who only have the one lecturer so another can be hired and brought in. they are also for future reference working on team taught modules so if one does end up sick, then the other wil be there to cover. they have assured me that they are trying as fast as possible to sort out all the missed lectures and get things back on trck as quick as possible. I was unable to attend the meeting, but i believe that these plans were not outlined to you, and whether Michael Stucky knows about them himself is a matter i wil be forwarding to him to make sure that this doesn't happen again in the future. If there is any other issues in regards to this( as i may have missed some things out) or anything else that you would like to raise, please don't hesitate to contact me and I shall do what i can to get you the information you need, os to sort the problems out. i hope this helps a little. thanks Kathryn Hayes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note & Summary from both emails These were made after the meeting 1st email reflects on what is being said "inside" the meeting between the Head of Law to us students that were effected 2nd email reflects on the feedback of the meeting by those who were not satisfied with the explanation made and the ideas that are imposed from the board meeting
And they are well tighttt! They make u do reading for the another week... But wan u to print off like 60+ pages from a journal T_T And like get pissed off when people dun have a copy of it to bring to the seminaR ¬_¬; And sometimes lectures are gay and be's like yehh u didnt turn up so not gonna put a copy on BB T_T Grrrr!!
Exactly, I doubt they would do anything, even if they do anything about it, by that time its too late, we may have already graduated. plus its very hard to catch up on work, especially bits that weren't covered
hahaaa I know what you mean!! what I hate is that we NEED to print it out and it's a waste of printing credit =,= ur uni use Blackboard tooo?? = I think the lecturers are just being pure lazy since that is being invented! It depends whether the topic is hard or not, I remembered I self taught myself on one of the modules in Criminology last year because I bunked off all the lectures
Just asking. In Canada there is no undergrad degree for law. Only graduate degrees. The closest would be a degree in poly sci.
Maybe do a group gathering and complain this directly to the head of uni or wait it out finish the exam and hope they'll just raise your marks to get a pass to satisfy the passing rate
totally agree. uni say they hv lots of high quality lecturers but the lecturers did otherwise. So freaking disappointed on their attitude towards undergraduates like us... last minute assignments, a few days before the final i even experienced lecturers cancelled the lecture class one minute b4 the class start.. credits to person who start tis thread. tis person could publish an article or even a book on tis topic
I'm not too sure about other coutries but in UK the unversity provides courses for those who has finished and passed A-levels, BTEC diploma and the like. Then the university provides: Foundation courses (for those who didn't quite get the grades so this is an additional course. Undergraduates (basicly for what I am attending to and you get you honours for it) Postgraduate (PhDs, which I think it might be masters? Tell me if I'm wrong) Part-time for those who has work committments Professional courses (i.e. Legal Practice) I'm sure other countries might have a similar structure... they have just named each ones differently We had the idea of not doing our assignment for Tort and go on strike and none of us will hand it in. Then it iwll cause us to have 0? TBH i don't even know who the head of uni is -mellow and it will be useless if some people gets a 1st or 90%+ and say about 40% of us gets like 2:2 or under or even fail... coz some people just study harder or has a good brain than others Meh with things like this happening, I kinda wished I did work harder in college and get as high grades as possible and gone into a good uni but then shit happens, I have the heart to transfer to my local back at home as I heard reviews from people that it isn't such a bad uni after all but then I will have to think about it, but I might wait it out and see after xmas and see if things have improved or not + going as far as writing an article or a book is not my fortay
awww mini bb...that must sucky BIG TIME...hope you get it sorted out sooon... did this happen in your 1st year as well...?...or did you flunk so muchy ya dun know....-whistle and ive always heard from people if the whoe year group taking this module get a ubbbber low grade the tutors tend to lower the grade boundaries so they dun look so bad compared to other modules..i duno if its true or not though...
