These are al to do with signs. Signs meaning a means of communicating with the other side of the world or forseeing the future:-
-Never use chopsticks to play drums on rice bowl - this was ancient way to call for spirts to come and eat, therefore will attract spirits.
-Some familys leave another set of rice bowl and chopsticks on the table - coz they believe in rice spirits and therefore welcome them to join in
-Never have bed facing window - coz spirits from the open world might come and drag you away
-Never have bed facing door - Think thats to do with coffins facing exit, therefore bad sign
-Blessing a house before moving in - Tells all the spirits that you are moving in and for them to hide or move on
    These are the common one,

Also heard it's bad luck to have a mirror facing your bed, I don't know why.
But what if you move in without blessing the house? -what?

The feet of the bed heading to the door is the postition for the death, i believe..
You cannot give a watch or clock as present because the pronouncations is "Sung Zung" which is the same as bringing someone to their "last restplace".

    Add:
Do not put chopsticks in a bown of rice as it is similair to incents (for the deceased).
Not whisteling when it is dark (lure ghosts)

I heard one pretty recently from my Gran when I went to Hong Kong. I was staying with my cousin and the night before I left, she was nagging my cousin not to wash her hair. She didn't give a reason except that it was because I was flying the next day. Never found out why.

I've heard many of the aforementioned superstitions as well, especially not leaving a single grain of rice or you'll marry a "dow pei por".

Isn't the mirror myth because of what you might see in the dark? ie figures, another face, etc? If you wake up in the middle of the night, i can see how one could potentially scare themselves, by accident...-huh

  15. yeah... i heard of those too

also if u like a candle n start peeling an apple when the click strikes midnight in front of a mirror u'll c ur future spouse... but if the string of apple peel breaks then i'm not sure whether it's something bad will happen to ur spouse or a ghost will come n get u...

No, never heard of that saying before...

My parents only told me if I dont eat all the rice in my bowl, that is bad cause you will waste all those farmers' hard-work in a way...

After hearing that, I decided to eat every last bits of rice and never left any unattended...
