Is it just my low end hTC android phone not having the power and resolution unable to play some mp4 videos captured from my old nokia phone, the picture lags and skips frames, does it happen on mid - higher end phones? Have tried all players from market but same effects. Any recommendation on an upgrade phone that plays media files well and doesn't burn my pocket?
shouldn't have to, my old nokia plays everything I throw at it with no lag it's scaled down to fit the screen res automatically. Ahhh well new phone hehheheeee
^ possibly cause your nokia's playback frame rate is different, my android device plays all types of videos without issues... find the right player could help.
Edit: sorry about the QR code sizes... I was lazy to fix them.... Been a long time since I've updated this thread with some cool apps (IMO). There are some reposts below. No root apps listed because I haven't rooted mine yet (shame on me). For book lovers, Amazon Kindle is definitely a great way to read your favorite books, study or kill time time on the transit. Aside from sleeping of course. For those who are having some memory problems that are by design (albeit failed), such as Google's fail decision to only allocate 256MB of memory for apps, thus preventing you from installing more apps, App2SD provides an easy method to transfer majority of apps to your external SD card. Sick of your default browser? Dolphin Browser HD is an excellent browser alternative that provides tab features (which the stock one doesn't), decent page rendering speed. Custom themes are available. Though I don't use this browser myself, it's still highly recommended over the stock one. If you don't know what Dropbox is, Google it, and download this app. If you know what Dropbox is, but don't have this app, shame on you. And download this app. I've tried looking for tech blog apps such as Gizmodo, Lifehacker, but none are as well developed as Engadget. If you're a fan, get it. Future Gas Prices - For Canadians only - With Gas prices costing us a limb a litter, a must have app in order to know when the best time is to fill your tank up. GO Contacts, Dialer, SMS - The GO series of applications offer an alternative to your stock Dialer, Contacts and SMS. Very well developed applications, great features, simple, and surprisingly, with great customer PR. http://www.goforandroid.com/ I'm not a big fan of antivirus or malware scanners, but Lookout can protect your phone from malware and viruses that are developed into the apps that you use. Some stuff that they can do is root your phone without your knowledge, steal your entire address book, steal sensitive and personal information from your phone. Lookout is an app that aims to prevent that from happening. What I like about Lookout is that it really is not resource intensive, runs in the background, and does not lag your phone (based on my experience). Must have. Another browser alternative is Miren Browser. Looks very similar to Google Chrome. I just use it because it looks nice lol. Power Amp is one of the best music player alternatives currently available. Though it's a paid app, it's definitely worth every penny. Currently my favourite player. With Android 3.0 Honeycomb Music app's recent leak into Android users hands, Music 3.0 offers a different UI than what we were used to in 2.3 and below. Combined with MusicFX's equalizer features, this is a great free music alternative that looks great, and is functional. Be warned, if you have a Nexus One, or a phone with limited memory problems, Music 3.0 takes 7.5MB from your phone's memory, and cannot be moved to your SD. app: http://www.slashgear.com/android-3-0-honeycomb-music-player-leaked-ready-for-download-29121891/ MusicFX: http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?.../plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=131 Pulse is a news reader app that brings together your favourite news outlets, all in one app. If you are a Redditor, "Reddit is Fun" is definitely a must have app. If you are not, check out reddit.com. interesting read when you're bored, or procrastinating. Sometimes when you add stuff to your SD card, whether through USB or SD card reader, certain apps don't recognize the new data you've added. SDrescan is an tool that re-indexes your data, so that your apps know of the new data you've just transferred through. Think of it like a refresh button. (At this point, I don't know why this is still an issue, but until they fix it, a good app to have). One of the best keyboard alternatives out there, Swype really makes typing easy. Once you master Swype, you can type with one finger, without lifting it off of your screen. This tops any keyboards (touch or mechanical) out there. iPhone and BB keyboards ain't got shit on Swype. Though, you'll have to have some luck to get into their beta phase... You'll need to keep up with their updates, to know when you can get your hands on it. http://swypeinc.com/ I'm not a Twitter fan, in fact I hate it. But I've found a great use for it. If you want news updates, just follow news outlets with twitter, and receive news tweets. Tweetdeck is a pretty nice Twitter app, that makes it easy to read tweets, whether you are online or offline. There's compatibility with Facebook, FourSquare as well. If you're with a company that requires you to put a pin lock, or if you have a pattern lock installed, and are sick of unlocking every time you want to use it at home, Unlock with Wifi is a neat app that disables your pin/password/pattern locks when it detects that you are home (by detecting your home network). I love this app, though it is incompatible with alternative lock apps.... :( WidgetLocker is a very cool lock screen alternative that allows you to do much more in terms of customization, than the stock lock screen. You can add widgets on your lock screen, change the lock screen slider, customize how your lock screen looks altogether. One of the greatest purchases of life. Launcher Pro is one of many launcher alternatives currently out. Now Launcher Pro is just a matter of my personal preference, but there are other great launcher alternatives out there, such as ADW.Launcher, and Helix. See link for a review of the three top launcher alternatives. http://lifehacker.com/#!5627867/bat...launchers-adw-vs-launcherpro-vs-helixlauncher Enjoy!
I got some of these. They are pretty good. Just updated to CyanogenMod 7 on my Galaxy S phone. Quite sexy and I'm loving it.
Swype is one of the most amazing programs I've ever seen. I can't believe I went an entire day without it hahaha
only downside with it is if you're putting in words incorrectly they save and they will show up again on a swipe.
Anyone stuck on finding a good chinese input for your english android phone? I recently tried out "QQ Chinese input/QQ 输入法" free on the market and can say it is best so far, only thing is its's developed by a chinese firm QQ so all options are in simplified chinese so make sure you can read it. all strokes and pinyin and handwriting (good recognition unlike others) supported.
TestlaLED is the brightest flashlight out there. It uses the flash of the camera. Key ring is pretty good to have so don't have to bring out all those barcode tags for different stores.
So is there any good chinese handwriting keyboard available now for android? (my dad's looking for a phone just so he can write chinese in messages - knows how to write the chinese.. but doesn't know pinyin. lol
Try "touchpal" supports many languages including handwriting, download the module for it too. Also qq input is very good since it's made by a chinese company.
