yeah, the nagging is annoying. but it worked with me. if anything, their constant nagging actually got to me. made me who i am now, so i guess it does work...once in a while

In Canada you pass with a 50. And they consider you better than the overall students if you get above 80. 70-79 is the overall range.

Sometimes, we fear that our parents will be disappointed or even scold us when we do below our own expectations. But we dun realise that most parents just want the best for us. Communicate; speak the truth.. and perhaps you will realise that your parents dun really mind that much after all. That the things you worry abt are actually really minute.. and that there are more to life than results.

my mom is always saying "if u don't work hard in school, ur not going to get into the good colleges". When i asked her if she knew what she meant by good colleges, she was thinking of IVY LEAGUE COLLEGES.

    wtf. are u serius?

What's wrong with aiming for an Ivy league school? My parents couldn't afford to send me to an Ivy league school, so you're fortunate. Aim high kids.

Ivy League is not the ONLY indicator of how good a school is... That's the problem.

UC Berk, Northwestern, NYU and Cal Poly are great schools, but neither of them are Ivy League... Considering the steep price tag, one have to wonder how GREAT the college is...

Ivy league schools have very high standards sometimes ridiculously high. That doesn't make them automatically better than other schools. But if you can get into an Ivy league school, you can get into just about any school. Where you end up going to school depends on the place that is most comfortable for you. I have a brother and sister who went to NYU and UC Berkeley they are excellent schools.

Majority of time, IVY leagues are places where you have to have MONEY and CONNECTION to get in and they are not necessarily the best education center.

^ Totally, Ivy League is like a hub for the best connections, especially for business and politics @_@b

Of course, given you are befriended by one of the fart boys or sorority girls =_=b Otherwise it's just another institution...

Ya, I can relate... But my mom isn't very strict on me. It's mainly the pressure fromt eh fact that my brother did well and I'm expected to do as good or even better.

trust me on this, you will thank them for nagging you.
When you graduate university or ivy school and get a job, you will feel so proud of yourelf.
When you had achieve those goals, you will now why your parents pushed you so hard.

it does seem like it is mostly asian parents that are so strict about school.. even tho in other ethnicities they also want their children to do well in school, it doesnt seem like the parents are as strict in enforcing that the kids do hw, or maybe arent as willing to make sacrifices for education... just my opinion. when i was a kid i wasnt allowed to watch tv M-Th unless it was tvb, and if i was caught i would be punished. lol sounds kinda sad but hey at least school is very easy for me, but yeah my parents never really bugged me about extracurriculars

also, altho i think that not everyone should expect to get into ivy league schools, i think that getting in can really help you, career-wise just because of the prestige and connections that u make
