lol .. no i am not anti-ralph .. anti nobody

running for president? dude .. i would BUT... you gotta be us borned citizen.

when arnold schwarzenegger tried to collect signature and stuff to amend the constitution so ppl like "us" can run for president too, it was struck down. NOW, that's not to say, ARNOLD is in any way a good politician ... he is just another fat head dumbass who just happened to marry one of the kennedys. he doesn't even have much to offer to the people of california .. so you wonder why he was elected to governor .. in fact, i am not even sure where this nation is going ... i am beyond shocked someone like palin can become governor as well or george h w bush become president when fucked up the nation the first time around. i am telling ya'll ... the nation is dooommmm

on a separate note, my friend is moving to australia cuz he said the tax system is so much better, is that true?????

^haha arnold just won because he was a popular celebrity i think cause everyone knows who he is and wanted the "governator" thing to happen, especially in california where hollywood resides. but i agree with the rule that you'll have to be us borned because being the president is a huge thing. its just the feeling if someone who was borned in another country taking over your country, its like someone else owns you i guess.

Obama won the election, good for him. He did make history. But what good is he going to do to Asians, especially Chinese is in my doubt. By the way, I am still a Clinton supporter...

At least Clinton is still a NY senator, so she still can do more good to Asians like me that lived in NYC than the newly elected president Obama.

No more republican president, because of president Bush is a republican party who messed up USA plus affected the whole world's economy. American people lost trust on him, he has bad reputation. We are glad that Bush is off presidency. Thank God.

This is why I hate to argue politics; everyone has an opinion but nobody's is ever perfect (mine included). It all depends on where you happen to sit (in any of the variables of income, geography, education etc) that affect your overall personal economic pressures. People are all focused on their own personal needs first and foremost and I can appreciate why; but the sole focus on personal economics is what is part of the morass that's destroying this country.

Take, for example, the elder population and their take on living in a district that requires all residents to pay school taxes; many of them don't like this because they don't have any kids in school anymore. So their attitude is, why do I have to unfairly pay for something that I don't or won't ever use? On the surface that seems like a slam dunk argument. But consider this, if all the kids in one district had to go to school in the neighboring district's schools, where do you think all the pizza parlors are going to be? Further, if parents seek good school districts to buy homes in, where are home values going to go up? As more people move in, what will happen to small businesses in that area? On the contrary, in communities that have no schools, there are no school taxes, but neither is there the bustling commerce that makes a community. My point here is, that in order to have a thriving economy, we sometimes have to pay for things that only tangentially have anything to do with us personally.

Additionally, the cost of living in places like California and New York have more to do with regional supply and demand rather than actual taxation. Moreover, New York State is one of the highest taxed states in the US; there is little that any president can do in that regard. And even though only five percent of the country is considered very rich, should we even consider that that five percent owns something like half the wealth of the US? If that's the case shouldn't they pay a little bit more towards the cost of this nation? Obviously, there are gradations to that wealth; some are rich, and some are literally filthy rich. Some seem well off at making 300 grand a year, but compared to the one making 3 million, or 300 million, they are dirt poor. All I'm saying is, taxing the very rich a few extra percent isn't going to kill them. Taxing the very poor the same few percentage points may mean not being able to make the mortgage or rent. So what is fair? What will keep the US together moving forward as a nation?

Besides taxation, which is only the tip of the argument, what about accountability? It isn't just tax dollars, but who, or what is minding the economy store. In the recent years of the sitting president, rules and regulations have been changed and bent to favor turning a blind eye on anything and everything, in the name of "business" and money making. Where did this lead us? The biggest Wall Street companies worth billions... going bankrupt? Is this what we wanted when we as a nation, voted Bush in as a business minded president?

We can certainly argue semantics and point to little microcosms and have our Ah ha! moments; but to what purpose? Everyone needs to realize that in order for any country to work, we all have to work together. If our nation were a football team, it's important to recognize that some of the players are bigger and can push harder, while some can run faster or jump higher. Some citizens can contribute more in tax dollars, while others contribute more in other ways.

JFK's 1961 inaugural speech was probably one of the most inspiring of any public figure's (...And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country). Even in this present day, I think it continues to have profound resonance.

IIRC, it's the US Secret Service, that is detailed to protect sitting and former US Presidents (and their immediate relations, along with foreign diginitaries on US soil); though the former office holder has the option of waiving such protection if he or she doesn't want it.

Which goes to show just how many people Bush was able to piss off...

    meh... secret service... fbi... :p

newayz... as much as i hate Bush... u can't exactly put all the blame on him for the trashed economy... Clinton was the one that deregulated everything and allowed quick and easy credit loans... Bush just went along with it -.-;.... tech bubble in 2k bursted while Bush was in office... but the bubble was made during Clinton's reign...

as far as taxing the rich go... i'm not saying that it'll kill them... but at the same time, it's not right to over tax them just because they are successful and wealthy... rich people create jobs for many Americans as it is... many times they're the head of innovation... and getting paid for it is the incentive of America... many of them have NPOs like Bill Gates, they've done a lot for the country as it is... it's not exactly fair to throw a 50% tax increase at them... of course not every rich person is like that, some get rich off sitting on their ass on a field of oil... however, if u begin to overtax the rich, they'll all just move out of the country, take their money, ideas and jobs with them... there would be no incentive to be at the head of innovation... what then? tax the almost rich while America slowly, but surely slides into mediocrity?

what i'm trying to say is... sure tax the rich a little more, it won't kill them... but don't be brash and say we should tax the rich cuz they can afford it... or the rich get richer and the poor get poorer... no that's bullshit, and if u really feel that way that's just sliding directly into socialism... might as well move to Canada...
