Shinjukuu (Tokyo). lots of ramen shops and other nice restaurants to go to and eat, plenty of shopping to do, bars, stripclubs, arcades. it has a very nice atmosphere and is always busy and vibrant.

i'm suprised no one mentioned anywhere in hokkaido!
sapporo is a pretty good place in my opinion. it might be a bit harder to get around compared to tokyo if you don't know japanese, but the people there are really friendly.
the seafood is fresher and cheaper, and there's quite a few good historic places and sights to see.
there's also a great franchise up there called round one and leisure sports, where you can play games, mazes, sports in the one centre. a good day's worth of fun XD

Osaka! Cheaper prices, and the people are more friendly, from what I've experienced.

yea osaka is great. more down to earth kinda place, compared to tokyo. and apperently all good japanese comedians come from osaka.

the crepes, lol. too sweet for me, but still nice. i had one with ice and banana and chocolat sauce. :)
