Im used to being called by my english name. My chinese name doesnt have a meaning to it -- just two words put together
I think a lot of people who've grown up in an English environment find that they like their Chinese names more than their English ones. But if it was the other way around, I've met a ton of people who only have Chinese names and they always choose English names because they think English names are cooler. It's all perspective, right? As for me, I'm used to my English name. It's weird for me to hear my Chinese name.
i don't like my english name....so many connotations you can derive from it. my english name is willy so im sure u can think of other meanings for that name. btw its not a nickname from william, its just plain willy, which is what is on my birth certificate. so i like my chinese name, 周浩 zhou1 hao4, alot better even though nobody here in california can pronounce it.
hahaha, i don't know if it's just me.. but people in hk like to call their names by english... and people who don't like in hk like to be called by chinese name. no? lol. example these hk ming sing, you don't hear anyone calling them by their chinese name: - eason chan [chan yik shun] = eason - yoyo mung [mung ka wai] = yoyo - bosco wong [wong jung jak] = bosco etc etc.... but yeh chinese names are wayyy cooler!
I don't tell my non-Asians friends my Chinese name but my family call me only by my Chinese name even in the presence of my friends.
I have a Chinese name but everyone refers to me by my English name - including my parents and grandparents
