Amazing that someone would even CONSIDER dialup!!! -lol

Anyway, here in Canada, I don't know anyone left on dialup (but I suppose it depends on what's available in your geographical location). In some cases, broadband is eve cheaper than dialup (if you go with a smaller company on a contract). Even if it's more expensive, there are options to get the cheaper "lite" version (much slower speeds but at least doesn't tie up your phone line) which ends up being about the same as dialup.

So true, even 256kbps plans are still offered. But it is very ridiculous especially when an ISP are offering 24Mbps plan or 8Mbps plan with a very low download quota limit. They still market plans with 200 MB of download quota with very fast speed. It's very stupid cos in the end alot of the customer end up over downloading their quota especially when they start using youtube and other video websites. Nowadays there is so much contents online that it is hard to resists. I guess there are still boring people out there who don't even use the net much and only for email ...lolz

its not all about speed these days, you have to remember contention ratios, bandwidth allowance, any peak time bandwidth restrictions

I feel what you're going through. I used dial-up for the first 3 years when I started using a computer.

I have dial up for the longest time, since it's free for college students. But we finally upgraded this past summer! Let me you it makes a HUGE difference! We are using Yahoo High Speed Internet (DSL) and It's relatively inexpensive and quite fast. We got it doing a promotional period and are paying only $12.95 per month. My sister has a cable line but there is not much difference between DSL and cable.

with cable it depends on how many users online at once i think.... so if there's heaps ppl dl at the same time u can get pretty slow speeds or when not many ppl online u can get alot faster speeds

prefer dialup? I don't think anyone who has tried broadband will say that. Dialup is the past bro.
