yea, hong kong to me is almost like taiwan. Altho they r still part of china, but they r still alittle bit isolated from mainland. I meant, they got their own flag too.
I consider HK to be a country. It was colonized by the British for so long that they are more westernized. Don't they have a different law system there too?
why? because he feels that way? FUCK how he feels. it was a price China paid when it was weak. of course it was reversed when China was strong. there were many interpretations on how the negotiations went, but ALL of them recognized the weak position the "iron lady" was in. Britain never had a chance, and Margeter Thatcher knew it. she even says so. Shaw: Well, Sir Percy Craddock, Britain's Ambassador to China said that you had to be persuaded, that you had to be told, that there was no way Britain was going to remain an administrative force of Hong Kong with the Chinese being the mere sovereigns. Thatcher: Well, that Deng Xiaoping told me. I'll tell you what he told me. I have written it. I said that we have done so well for Hong Kong, for Hong Kong people, that can we not have another lease say for another 50 years? He reacted very quickly. He said no. I said can we not have another lease? I said we have done so well on a territory which I know will eventually return to you. Wouldn't you really let us have...it would be an act of sovereignty to give us a management contract? Shaw: They were outraged. Is that when Mr. Deng told you that if the Chinese wanted to they could walk right in here and take Hong Kong? Thatcher: Oh yes he said he could. But I know that I didn't need to be told. That is why I had to ask him. But, he said to me, which really rather shook me: I would rather recover Hong Kong poverty stricken than let the British have another period of administration over Hong Kong. Now, that shows you the communist mind- not concerned about the prosperity, about the well being of the people. source: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9706/30/thatcher.transcript/ question of whether or not HK IS or SHOULD be a country is not supposed to be based on FEELING. that is why even though my entire family on BOTH sides is from Hong Kong, and even I dont agree with what is happening in regards to the mainland recently... i can still say for certain that HK IS NOT and SHOULD NOT be independent. sure as HELL not under Britain. it is a CHINESE city and should be ruled under CHINA. i'd rather HK get blown off the face of the earth than be a colony again.
are you from Hong Kong? because you sure dont seem to realize Hong Kong retains more traditional culture than even a lot of mainland. for example HK still writes in traditional script. many customs that the culture revolution and communists destroyed thrive in HK. "The state of ancestor veneration in modern day China is reported to be declining in areas that were more heavily affected by the hostility towards religion under the Communist Regime." - [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancestor_veneration_in_China[/ame] "Shops making and selling paper replicas for burial rites or for worship of the gods can be found all over Hong Kong territory." - http://www.thaiworldview.com/hongkong/religion/ancestor.htm
i consider hk to be a country but then everyone tells me that its an island and its part of china... i mean if hk isnt a country then why does it have its own flag?! stupid >.<
as i understand it, every province in Canada and every state in US also have their own flag. [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_New_York[/ame] [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Ontario[/ame] One Country 2 Systems, HK will have a lot of things that other cities dont. currency, olympic team, etc. doesnt mean anything. it is under Beijing gov. and officially part of PRC's land.
