sigh. it's the opposite for me. people refuse to speak anything but cantonese to me. i may be chinese but cantonese isn't my dialect. they've refused to serve me, laugh at me, give me looks, charge me exorbitant prices... all because i don't speak their dialect. i'm learning. but still. -unsure

haha cockney.... i doubt you meet many people who speak proper cockney but heres a website to help ya out [http://www.cockneyrhymingslang.co.uk/]

lol i also dunno anyone who speaks "proper"(queens) english, leave that to the films and posh people living in the countryside

best to learn ghetto UK language like "wastemans" = looser

^ We all know bits and pieces of the "proper accent", mastered through much hardship and repeated viewing of some obscure British films.

^ yeh as in we all know the stereotype, but i can say i know no one that speaks proper english like in nottinghill or that crap :D

I don't know, my friend visited from London and she has British accent (general), of course I can't tell if it's proper English :p I just like nasal sound and the lack of tongue-rolling in that accent :D

I don't care what they think of me. Some distant relatives whom I've never seen before might think I cannot understand/speak Cantonese but they'll ask me that and they'll get their answer immediately. :) But overall, no they know we manage our language, even if it was only basic wise.

I find it more annoying when people ask me to translate random phrases/insults/cuss words into chinese for them so that they can use them senselessly.

Yes it can be annoying, but I get more annoyed at the fact that most Chinese people just come up to me speaking Mandarin and expect me to speak it too - which I dont, I just speak Cantonese and hakka

LMAo this always happens at work when I'm explaining to customers about cell phone plans and stuff. I dont start with Cantonese right away (cuz sometimes they're Mando)...plus its more fun to make them use broken English first.

Then they're appreciative that I make the extra effort and then they buy a phone or 2 from me. Muahahaha! ;)
