yes i get very annoyed when people asked me if i speak chinese but in mauritius,there are very few chinese.The advantage that we have is that if i says something,others(other culture) will not understand a thing,lol. P.S:i know very little chinese words..common talk..

yeah, it pissess me off when my relatives who cnt even speak proper english, and pronouce words properly speak 2 me in english. i mean i am chinese, dey take da piss man!!!!
actually I don't get annoyed, in fact I like it. It amazes me to see how shocked they are when they hear me speak chinese.
it annoys me when I talk to my brother and sister, cause I tend to find that I can express myself better in chinese and they are whitewash so they have no clue what I am saying and than I have to translate it in english and my pronucation in english is horrible, so when I mess up they laugh at me...it alls good tho, cause when they try to speak chinese, their pronuncation is 10 times worst than my in english.
^ Don't we all love to eavesdrop? I like to do that too. Especially when the subject at hand is the type who happen to think they are so knowledgeble in Chinese because they know 100 words. It's good fun
Yes...sometime I get annoyed over that people think I can't speak cantonese...but it is also funny when you speak it when they're speaking it xD. Also I get really annoyed at people who think I'm one of those ABC (Australian Born Chinese) but I'm born in Hong Kong...but came to Australia when I'm 6.
i'm pretty much english ed.. i speak english more than half the time... moreover i don't look chinese (though i'm 100% chinese). i have pple think me as malay or hawaiian.. haha.. yea i'm tan... but like whenever i speak in mandarin.. my pals would be like "shut up. it feels odd hearing you speak in mandarin" haha... but my mandarin is fine.. HRMF
when i went to hk, one of the store clerks was dissing my cantonese. She couldnt even understand english.
I acually find it quiet funny! Ppl really just dont expect it from me (cuz apperently i dont look chinese =-=), then i pull out my perfect chinese and awe em'. LOL!
I wouldn't get offended, I'd just talk in Chinese to them if I wanted them to speak Chinese to me instead of using English >.> But like... maybe some of the reason dat they don't speak Chinese first thing is because they not sure if a person is Chinese at all sometimes? kinda awkward when you speak a language to a person and they don't even understand... happened once when a Japanese person came up to me when I was on vacation and started talking and I just stood there like "heh..heh" smiling like a retard.
Well it wont bother me, in fact i would probably play along, pretending I don't know and see what they say in front or behind me. But I guess the scariest is non chinese starts to speak better chinese than us.
I never had that problem. Instead, people assume i could speak chinese and start speakin to me in chinese... haha. I guess I look 100% chinese. Or maybe that's coz i am in an Asian country, and not Western.

nope! i find it funny...cuz they're speaking chinese and you're listening to them. especially when it's with people who suddenly say something bad about you, and you reply...the look on their face is classic!
i speak very little basic Cantonese, lost my mother tongue coz my dad didn't teach it to me. those who chat with me,they just use multi-language. not a problem here.
