lol watching these clips will give people who don't study linguistics a headache.. people say it's "lon yum" because it's easier to pronounce.. i think pronouncing something unaccurately isn't a crime.. just as long as the other person you are speaking to undertands you
hahahaa jeez, my canto is getting poorer by the minute -.-.... it used to be fine wen i was a lil kid
I understand cantonese fully, but I am not very confident when I speak it. My reading/writing is not so great, but I'm working on it now.
Man, these people would have a field day with CBCs.....ofcourse, they'd probably be much more forgiving 'cause most of the HKers I've met are impressed that I (being a CBC) can even speak chinese...
Either way, good post. I don't know if anyone can actually claim that 'lan yum' is 'improper' cantonese.....every language is going to go thru changes (just like english --> ebonics). Interesting topic.
Always learned the non-"lazy" pronunciation. I just have a bit of an accent (as a dutch born chinese). The pronunciation was one of the first things that I noticed when speaking to people, guess it's common in HK to speak that way. Interesting videos -^_^
