I personally don't think artist in HK can sing...no offence if you compare artist from japan or even taiwan, they can sing live....most of the time =D that's why i'd choose any artist over artist in HK
In terms of singing performance, Jacky Cheung must be up there. Honestly I don't listen to much Cantonese music anymore because the newer artists are just not good enough.
well tbh the hong kong music industry has been going downhill for quite a while now. but there are still talented artists out there who can sing very well. so it still remains to make good music.
new ones = crap 四大天王! Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai! PLUS Hacken Lee especially. Everyone else is crap.
Yeah, the 4 heavenly kings were great. Now there are several new artist that I really don't like. However, they are popular in hk. But I prefer the music of korean dramas!
i used to hate the music my mum listened too when i was young because i didnt appreciate chinese music. but as i got older i started to realised how catchy and those songs were. to the current artist i dont mind them, i can still sing along with joy to the more ballad stuff from Raymond Lam, Eric Suen. Andy Lau can still be considered as current, and im sure we cant complain about his productions. but agreed that singers like Twins does lower the standards and even worse they have a pretty big fanbase which confuses me =S
i think hk singers actually can sing like andy lau great songs of him, aaron kwok, boy'z (keeny and steven) love their songs like partners and following but too bad thay are not together anymore, adam cheng, stephen chow is not a singer but i like him singing in the movies he sounds very funny, theresa fu and many others..
The new generations of HK singers are NOTHING compared to the oldies, like the '4 Kings'... Leon, Andy Lau, Aaron,..and damn, can't remember the other 1s name! They were awesome, espesh Leon :] All these new 'singers' sounds over produced & seriously lacking in their own style. i swear they all sound the same i.e 'POPpy'. There are a few gems out there though but singers llike Yumiko & actors-turned-singers makes me cringe. How do these people become singers when they're talentless? They're only 'famous' for their looks and mediocre voice as well as their connections. This pees me off as there are plenty of people out there who are actually TALENTED at singing, write their own songs and desperately trying to be discovered... yet these contracts are wasted upon the other fools. That's why the HKs music industry is declining as they're just mass producing crap. I say bring back the good oldschool artists!
I think that most of the artists in HK are talented and produce music of amazing standards - whether singing abilities, lyrics comp, style. Others though, seem to be immensely deprived of this - particularly in the new generation of singers/groups emerging into the industry. Maybe it's because of their inexperience, or that their latent abilities have not totally awoken I cannot say.
Re: Do You Think Hong Kong Artist Can Sing? wat? ur talking about the 70s, 80s early 90s or 2000s? if 70s, 80s, and 90s, then i like it. Those classics r hard to forget. it reminds me back then living wit my family. but the 2000s, sigh......i realyl dunno wat to say. I dont wanna ruin their appearance or hard work wit my honesty.
how could u forget the true king, jacky cheung. the others rise because of their fame. Jacky cheung is like the only true singer outta the 4. he could sing wit out the music and it still sounds godly.
are bands included? cause i really like Beyond from the early 90's! too bad Wong Ka Kui died =(... thers also other like sam hui, Joey Yung, Sammy Leung, Roman Tam,Anita Mui, Eason Chan and Leo Ku... the newer singers, are rather crap in terms of singing (and acting if they act at all) but ther are some pretty good ones, like Justin Lo
Beyond is one of the best band back in the days, if not, the best. yea ur rite, too bad he's dead. He could've been making new goldy songs like back in the days. sammi, eason chan, leo ku aint good. to me, they suk as well as those new singers.
