There isn't much point for me to leave it on 24/7. Plus, I know my PC is not a network/server machine, again, there isn't much point to tax its components by keeping it on, not to mention the electric bill (not that I have to pay hydro )
I leave it on as long as I'm awake, but I shut it down each night that I'm not downloading, kind of noisy and since my computer will lag if I leave it on for about 2 days, mind as well start it up again each day.
i usally leave it on for a couple of days, i dont know about 24/7 though... i just turn it off whenever =P i think computers are designed to be left on though, and it uses the most electricity when turning it on
I leave my comp on 24/7 every 2 or 3 days, then i will shut it down for half a day and turn it on again for 2 or 3 days.
total uptime atm for my desktop is 3 months 15days 6hrs ( according to my plugin ) i do it for easy access, so i don't need to boot or anything. power consumption is less when it's idle because i turn off the moniter and the hard disk goes to sleep. similar to a laptop hibernating cept that stores everything to ram. my laptop gets shut down every night.
I usually leave my laptop computer on for a night when I am downloading a movie drama or game. That would be abt 10hr max.
my computer is only off when it forces me too, like i install something that requires it or something.
my computer is on pretty much 24/7.... never really turn it off cuz im not paying any electrical bills in res heh....
I used to do that with my old laptop but I noticed that there were some adverse effects on its performance. Therefore I regularly turn off my new laptop now.
oh yeah, I run my machine 24/7 within 3 months without shutdown Cause i built my PC by myself and my RAM is 2 GB. My HDD is 4 x 500 GB. And until now it's no problem for me to run it 24/7
longest i ever left my comp on was i think either 17 or 18 days.. was like downloading about 200 gb of animes...as well as watching them n burning them.. afterward i pretty much short circuited my ram and vid card...rather than overheating the motherboard..lol
I have 2 computers running 24/7. And let me tell you, that room is always warmer than other parts / rooms of the house!
Use to have it running all the time but hard drive seems to crash more often. So now I leave it on during the day and off at night.
