I live in NYC Chinatown! Its not that bad. Its a very safe environment, there is always somebody on the street. Nobody dares to mug/jump somebody when 1000 pairs of slanted/quinty Chinese eyes are looking at you. Plus you gotta love the cheap food.
LA Chinatown is no longer an actual Chinatown. Nothing much compared to SF Chinatown. It seems like LA Chinatown is more of an American's idea of Chinatown and not the Chinatown where alot of Chinese goes to anymore. I don't think Monterey Park has an official Chinatown but there sure are alot of good food there. I still like SF Chinatown - cheap awesome food.
I'll rock Chinatown anytime. I don't mind any of the smell or any of that. Feels like home to me, lol.
pshh i just got ripped off at the San Francisco Chinatown the other day, although it is partly my fault. when i went to one of the shops there, they were selling bootleg DVDs (of course) of asian dramas and movies. They actually had a lot of korean, japanese, and taiwanese series' that i knew were still airing in their respective countries. so i picked up a japanese series and bought it just to check it out because if they were good quality vids with quality subs, it would have been a great find. But alas, the videos were a straight up tv-rip, not even hdtv rip just regular ugly tv-rip and the subtitles for the first 8 episodes were really good, they even had notes and everything but for the last 2 eps, it was completely engrish subs hahaha. I had no idea what they were trying to say with the english subs but at least I can understand japanese so it wasn't a complete waste. I wasted 7 dollars for that though >.<
yea....i hate the dirty street and the crowded people but then i like the prices of their product. cheap cheap cheap.
If you like to eat good and fresh food without paying thru' your nose, China Town is the place to be! It's good place to shop especially in the current economy. I'm fortunate to have 3 different China Town to go to in New York. While I understand the crowd and hygine may be concern, it hasn't bother me so far and I haven't get any food poisoning eating there so far... (finger crossed!) BTW, which China Town are you having such problem?
its only really crowded at chinese new years in London But I love London chinatown, it's just soo unique. i never miss an oppurtunity to go there whenever i'm in London, Plus its an awesome place to stock up on goodies. And i kinda do a mass shop for all my friends in goodies and snacks. Though the restaurants there are usully very similar, but i recently visited one of the more sophisticated ones [expensive!] Haozhan and their food is SO SO SOOO nice. First time in chinatown that i ate non greasy noodles.
Please don't take exception to the people of Chinatowns around the world. Not everyone is as privileged as some of you. I am sure some of them are working hard to move up the social ladder but not everyone could. Please show some compassion and learn to be a little more humble.
Bah, you're just taking it for granted... my city doesnt even have a china town... its just a china street with like 2 stores and a bunch of natives. I would kill for some smelly NY Chintown action
I didn't read what others wrote but I personally don't hate Chinatown; just don't go there. My first experience at Chinatown was fighting for peaches with the old ladies .. yeah .. you read it correctly, old ladies and peaches .. those old ladies were very aggressive in picking out the fruits, rude, dirty, and altogether vicious when it comes to bargains. If you read my other threads, when it comes to anger, I let it out right there .. so yeah, I was totally blab blab blah out all the Chinese profanity I knew .. got my peaches and left the place .. I am sure those old bitches probably wished me dead or talked shit about me behind my back. I felt guilty about the incidence and have no intention on repeating that experience.
