I'm 100% Chinese, and other Asians often mistaken me for mix or South East Asian because I have bigger eyes and double-eye fold (雙眼皮) which I got from both my parents as they've got bigger eyes too. White people - who are basically CLUELESS when it comes to distinguishing Asians races - think I'm Japanese :|.... I laugh along with people outloud... but secretly, I'm upset. But when I don't wear glasses, I look Chinese.... but unfortunately, I'm not allowed to wear contacts, so I have to wear glasses fulltime. :(
When ppl see me they know right away I'm chinese. When they see my name on paper, they think I'm vietnamnese. But they tell me I look mandarin.. which is strange.. *shakes head*
Hahah.. "look mandarin" - I love it when white ppl say that. "Are you cantonese or mandarin???" I can tell - just by looking - that someone is from Mainland vs. Hong Kong/Taiwan .... but looking mandarin ... thats hilarious... Geez.
the ppl here know im chinese and know im from Hk there was an odd 1 or 2 said a was jap but there was 1 that didnt know about canto and man so thought i was hong-konese !? -lol
it happens, black people always call us asian people the same. for example, they think chinese is viet, japanese, and korean and etc. they think its all the same and that pisses me off. =/

omg, you're exactly like my cousin then! But she goes to the tanning salon to get tanned... that's why a lot of people mistaken her for thai or filipino all year long.
I think that this happens all the times and wholes the world, so we shouldn't get mad about that. Peoples allways thought that i'm Vietnamese.
I live in Holland... here they say asians all look the same so sometimes they think im from indonesia or something...but mostly they "guess" that I'm Chinese... Which I am
Yes I have. I'm 100 % chinese and I've been asked if I was: Japanese Korean Vietnamese Hispanic Native American Singaporean Taiwanese <-- practically chinese but whatever Thai Filipino and more.. One time, I was at Burger King at the Soda Fountain, and this random dude came up to me and started talking in Jap.
Ive been mistaken for Japenese (Im Chinese) but I generally find that its White people who do this. Apparently we "all look the same". I think only other asians can tell the difference between asians. Personally I take it with a pinch of salt cause its only showing that persons own ignorance and stupidity
