No one would even have the GUTS to say to me that cantonese isnt chinese. partially cause a big majority practically all actually speak cantonese. and they would get laughed in their face and beat up if saying otherwise.
that depends if u see hong kong as part of china as most ppl speak cantonese there and in china (beijing) they speak mandarin. anyhow i dont care i mean to mean there both chinese like how ppl have different accents
canto is a chinese dialect right? why isn't it Chinese??? no offence to taiwanese but it's just the same a saying Taiwan is not chinese... yeah Taiwan is Taiwan but your passport says 'Republic of China'??? It's just plain denial...
That has never happened to me before (mainly because everyone where I live speaks Cantonese, except for Mandarin teachers). And how can Cantonese not be considered Chinese? What language would it be then? It started in China, it's Chinese anything else is wrong. Just try to ignore that person because Cantonese is Chinese no matter what anyone says.
Almost all the asians in my school speak cantonese, I haven't met a mando person yet. Besides doesn't most of China including Hong Kong speak chinese. Even the villiage languages are more closely resembled to cantonese than mandarin. Not sure...
Most my friends and I speak cantonese, so I never encounter the problem those Mando dissing Cantonese, but I know there must be some people like that out there. They're so rude and cocky for saying stuff like that. ~_~
hmm in my area, msot cantonese speakers don't admit that Hong Kong is part of China, and they say that China is a horrid horrid place, and that mando speakers are .... not as good as them. I haven't heard of a mandoo speaker say that about Cantonese speakers though... but ya either way it IS very annoying. oh my gawd do they NOT know that Hong Kong is now part of China again? racist to their own kinda i swear... no offense to chinese people...*chinese myself* but seriously some of em are just soo damn cocky. And this dosnt only apply to chinesee people ... it appliess to like all those others that look down on people...

China is too damn diverse for us to stand at one you find 1 chinese dude every 100 miles apart from china they probably dont know what each other are saying
hmm thats an interesting situation...i can see how it could arise. being able to speak cantonese means that i am able to speak more than one language...it means a lot here =)
I think people like that are idiots, and just insecure with themselves. They say that Cantonese has a lot of older tones that have been retained throughout the years. A guy like that probably got dumped by some hot cantonese girl, and he's got a grudge on his shoulder ever since.
to me the word 'chinese' have 2 meanings 1) the ethnicity 2) the nationality ppl often get confused with it
The problem is most of the things said here is true. China grls do go after men's wallets (HK + english) and there are China ppl who are crazy...come on...!! Cantonese is definately Chinese, good on you 'person' for standing up for us!! I personally don't have as much respect for China ppl, just cos I have met some who are really not nice and have no manners, etc. Not that all China ppl are like that, mostly just from bad/poor areas of China like Gongzhou, Shenzhen, ...
This is the first time I heard someone say something like that. I always feel proud to be able to speak cantonese..it is more fun to speak in cantonese compared mandarin.
