ppl speak mandarin dont make them better same as british speaking english differently then americans its the same ignore the ignorant snobs
People who say that Cantonese isn't real Chinese are simply not using their heads. History and geography can attest to that. Anyway, who's to judge what is Chinese and what is not?
lol @ mandarin = mainland fob hahah hmm i guess im lucky its not an issue for me, tonnes of peeps where i live are canto speakers hor hor we > than no. of mando speakers...well at my uni...hehe but everyone is equal la...kinda..
that is the first time i heard someone write or say that comment. what people do you hang around?? besides mandarin might be the national language of china, but you have to realize at least 1/2 of china cant speak mandarin...
I can only speak cantonese and very minimal mandarin. People do laugh at me occasionally because they say that mandarin is a more important language. They believe that in the long run, mandarin will be helpful in all sorts of professions cos China is rising in status and building enterprise. But why bother learning until you're perfectly sure that they are on the road of civilisation? Even in China itself there are so many various dialects, their people themselves might not learn putonghua! I know of some places in China where there are different schools to teach putonghua, and if you can't afford it, sorry, too bad for you then. I'd speak good old cantonese any day...at least it's useful in Hong Kong, where it is civilised and the people are better educated.
Lol, i guess some kids were raised up by that fact since mandarin was the main language in china, they thought it might be the better language. Mandarin was started by the Zhou dynasty, so you could blame this stupid dynasty for doing that. But yea, Hong Kong is a special economic zone set up by Deng Xiaoping (communist leader) and is of course superior than the mainland china which is filled with fobs. Also because it has a education similiar to the British, ever since the British took over in 1911, after the fall of the Qing Dynasty and Hong Kong was taken over, so yup, its better to be Canto i guess. -innocent
i have never had such a problem. but i do wish i also understand mandarin. i can only say very simple things like, hello, thank you, how are you...
i was in shanghai last month and tried to speak mandarin just adding alot of nasal sounds when I speak cantonese lol. They were soooo shocked they asked where me and my sis were from we said we were originally Hong Kong ppl they laughed and said how come you're chinese and can't speak chinese I said I can its just cantonese they looked at me like I was thick!!! it was really annoying but I'm learning mandarin now cos it is becoming more and more popular like in films and music.
wth? that doesn't make sense in my neighborhood. As long as a person born from Chinese parents then he/she is Chinese even if that person can't speak any Chinese language.
mandarin is widely spoken around the world. (*rated no.1 spoken language as of 2006 research) BUT CANTONESE makes a tvb fan like me happy. hahahaha
i've never had anyone say that to me before but after reading that i do feel annoyed. chinese isnt even a language! its a name that refers to mandarin AND cantonese
